So did Blackest Night happen? I know the Green Lantern continuity was saved, but does that simply extend to lots of lanterns or all shapes colors and sizes?

trust me, i'm a doctor

As far as I know, everything that happened since Rebirth happened. Anything before...maybe?

See, this is one of the problems that One More Day stumbled into, but is kind of the reverse. Instead of changing one thing in an unchanging universe, they kept two things the same in a changing universe, and now they're going to have to deal with it. Cause, after all, you can't exactly have Parallax without the Death of Superman, and you can't have Hal coming back from the dead in Rebirth without Zero Hour and on and on and on.

"Of Christ's twelve Apostles Judas alone proved to be traitor. But if he had acquired power, he would have represented the other eleven Apostles as traitors, and also all the lesser Apostles whom Luke numbers as seventy." - Leon Trotsky

I have a blog. This is its URL. You should read it. It's about education and skepticism and books and it has a lot of pictures of Batman and Robin in it: https://baldermoon.wordpress.com/

I think I've already exhausted my library's Batman selection, sadly, but... I discover, tucked way back in the "adult" comics section (where, weirdly, all the recent Batman and Robin books are... but not fucking Invincible, which is maybe one of the most graphic series in recent memory)...

Secret Six.

I've only read volume one so far and... how they hell did Simone wrench so much joy out of a book about a sextet of total fucking bastards. Now I know what everyone's been talking about. Goddamn. Shame is just ended, I'm a little late to the party.

In non-DC news, I just blew through vols. 5-10 of Powers, which, while exhaustingly wordy as Powers always is, was a really good time. Going to have to Ill the next few.

Also vol. 1 of the most recent version of New Avengers was a blast.

And then there's the X-Men. I've always been an X-Junky so I grabbed a handful of hardbacks and trades in my last go-round... Messiah Complex feels like it came out 20 years ago, and is to unrelentlingly EXTREME that it almost soured me on the modern version of the X-Men... but thankfully Astonishing: Exogenesis was a blast and Astonishing: Xenogenetic was a surprisingly good read, dire as it was*, and the hardback Nation X book was pretty damn awesome. Shame the latter half is anthology and some of the stories take place before the end of the first half, with no indication that this is happening (hence, mere pages after Magneto brings Kitty back we get a story about Colossus... mourning her?).

*Being a fairly new father I don't take well to children/babies being killed off. Xenogenetic and Messiah Complex both do this--in the former, a newborn explodes literally while the doctor is still holding it for the first time; in the latter, the Purifiers torch a hospital nursery. This is supposed to make me hate the villains, make me feel for the parents, but all it does it piss me off at the writers who so blatantly are trying to pull heart-strings instead of writing actual characterization.

But that's a longer discussion I won't get into here, because I can get ranty when I'm not careful.---Write after I wrote this post I read a Secret Six issue where Bane, Catman, and Ragdoll save a bunch of little kids from bad guys. Timely.

One of the best character moments for Bane is in that issue. When he's trying his best not to be a scary bastard while craddling a child, and just totally failing. I loved that shit. I love Secret Six. I love Bane. Goddamn. Why is Suicide Squad going to be the worst of the new 52? :(

I'm asking if Blackest Night still happened because<a href="https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/dersquirrel/BlackestNight5021-22.jpg";> this was my absolute favorite part</a> and it only happened because of the emotional connection everyone had to Bruce.

If no one's even met Batman before now, how could this have happened?

Because it happened after the current storyline for JLA, which is set five years ago, man.Why am I in such a good mood?

Why, because Newsarama has a preview for Action Comics #1 up, and it's fucking amazing, that's why: https://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=44117

I didn't know the JLA story was technically a flashback, that does make more sense now.

Man those five years must have been pretty exciting with everyone dying and coming back to life.

He's naive, untested and raw. His parents just died, he's never been out of Smallville until now, he has the powers of a god and he's twenty years old. Of course he's a bit edgy.

... his parents the Kents? They killed off the Kents already? Geez, DC, making up for lost time?

Yep. The Kents die prior to Action Comics #1.

Wait, he's 20 years old? How the hell can Superboy still be part of the universe?

He's in his early twenties. Don't quote me on that.

And Superboy is still part of the universe because Action Comics, much like Justice League, is set five years in the past, while Superboy takes place in the present.

So has Batman been operating... prior to JL #1, so he's been doing is thing for MORE than the five years people have been bandying about since this thing was announced?
