What will happen with the 'original' FFXIV when this gets released?

FFXIV is becoming FFXIV 2.0 orginal FFXIV will no longer exist.

Its cool how they are writing it into the storyline. There is somone who has magicly removed the 2nd moon from its orbit and its about to hit Ezora. You can see it in the game getting closer every day. Now there are metor storms happing 24/7 in the game from where the mood is dropping. Once it hit that will be the start of 2.0 and how they are explaining the geogaphy changes and stuff.

I really hope FFXIV 2.0 is as fun as the new trailers make it look. I mean- honestly, I didn't hate FFXIV as it was when I played. It wasn't the best, most polished MMO ever, and there WAS a lot wrong, but it was fun enough to keep me interested outside of lacking the money to keep playing as long as I wanted to. It can only go up, but the trailers look SO FUN and I hope it lives up to even a fraction of that.

I don't actually have a lot of hope, knowing how prone Square is to fucking everything up these days, but considering I already enjoyed it to begin with, at the very least I don't think they can make it any worse. So here's hoping.

I havent played since it went off free to play, but I have a roommate that does and says the changes made are amazing and its only like a quarter of the changes that will be made for 2.0.

He plays it quite often too so Im hoping its awesome.

Wow.  I may have to reinstall FFXIV when 2.0 is released.

Actually, Yoshida stated a few days ago that he's going to run a poll to see if there is any interest in keeping original FFXIV active even after the start of 2.0 service - but as a seperate game from the rebooted version (it was mentioned at the end of his most  recent 'Letter from the Producer' on the Lodestone, here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/53080).

He stressed that if this was the case there would be no new additions or even bug patches for it however, but he did seem to be at least very keen on the idea of keeping the original game in operation after the end of the year.

But nothing is confirmed at the moment though.

Where is it dropping?  I'd like to see this myself.

That's the thing - the exact impact location is unknown. The general idea is that it will hit somewhere around Gridania, but that stems from the fact that the Black Shroud is having probably the biggest facelift. The 'Realm Reborn' trailer shows amongst other things Ul'dah in silhouette from the impact, so that's another possibility, and finally, when 2.0 was first announced, the PDF file SE released with concept art showed what looked like Limsa Lominsa next to a giant crater with what looked like a big crystal in the centre, so even that's a possibility.

So yeah, I presume SE is keeping the location of 'ground zero' for Dalamud's apocalyptic impact a tightly-guarded secret until 2.0's release (but then, I guess that uncertainty is part of the fun ;)).

I love it when MMORPG's use devastating events to explain better zone design. First WoW with Deathwing and now FF14 with a moon falling onto the world.

So I can just go see the meteor shower and the moon from Ul'dah?  I bought 10000 crystas when the game came out and just reactivated it in June for the legacy program.  That being said, I haven't played for a year and have no idea what's going on in the game.

So um, I don't know why but I used some crysta 3 days ago and reactivated my FFXIV account.  I deleted my lvl 10 character and started over in Balmung server.  The game has changed A LOT.  I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit.  Unfortunately,  I know no one in game so I know I'll be getting bored solo'ing pretty soon.  My pugilist is now lvl 20.

Further to my earlier post, Yoshida has now revealed that SE will indeed be keeping original FFXIV active even after the 2.0 version launch, essentially establishing two seperate 'FFXIV' games, as mentioned here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/55751

Naturally there won't be any further updates to 'FFXIV old style' once 2.0 launches, but at least keeping the original version active would not obsolete the current copies of the game already sold or still for sale (I've seen Collector's Editions still for sale at my local EB Games for instance), once 2.0 goes live.
