Hello peeps!

I'm looking at getting a new phone and am wanting to steer away from the iPhone 5. This leaves me with the above two options here in NZ - now disregarding networks (and maybe pricing) which phone is better?

I'm looking for something that will ultimately work as a phone, have good connectivitiy to allow me to organise myself, have a good camera for when I'm out on the go (and I hardly ever use my digital camera because it eats batteries like Epic Meal Time eats bacon). Speaking of battery life I'd be looking for something that could handle reasonable use as it may end up becoming my mp3 player as well.

What are your suggestions FFO? Anyone have one of these phones and can share an insight as to what makes them good, bad or ugly?

Sugar. Short AND sweet.

From my admittedly few experiances with both phones? The Nexus pretty much blows the pants off most other phones on the market right now.

Get the Nexus 4 simply for the fact it's pure Android. It won't have any of the bloated Samsung shit on it.

I made this for you!

Heh This is funny, I was thinking about finally getting a smart phone soon and then this thread gets created.

One thing about the Nexus... Why can't it be supported on Sprint and Verizon?
Actually what's with half the "manufacturer vs carrier" drama I'm actually giving the time of day to read now.

The nexus only supports GSM so if Spirit or Verizon have CDMA networks you're shite out of luck.

As much as I perhaps should have gone for the Nexus, they weren't readily available on my favoured network nor were they readily available full stop. The greater storage size and possibilities of the Galaxy S III got the better of me - not to mention I could get it right now, $20 cheaper and with free case, car charger and sim.

I have no idea how to work it but I like it!

I've had the Galaxy S2 since it came out and have been very happy with it.  I approve of your choice.

I'd go with Nexus too. It's just a way better phone and as others have said, its pure android.  Bloated android stuff is not fun, and neither are waiting extra months for software updates.  THough Samsung's version of Android is WAYYY better than Motorola's at least.

I want to get a Nexus 4 myself, but the storage space is making me reconsider. With 16 GB being the largest model and no removable storage like MicroSD, I'm gonna be gasping at straws everyweek to delete stuff. I take alot of pictures and videos, cache a lot of maps and data, and most of all store gigs and gigs of music, so if storage space is as important to you as it is to me, you might want to get a Galaxy S3. Personally I despise shelling out hundreds of dollars for a phone only to have to always be concious of hpw nuch stuff I can put on it. Its probably the first thing I look at when judging a phone.

Right now I'm having a struggle deciding which to get based on better software vs more storage space, so I might just wait for the next big thing that has both. Though I highly doubt google will make another phone so soon, so a phone lile the S3 may be my only option. Good luck.

I'm using a Samsung L3, and for what it's worth, Android runs great on it. (It's only Gingerbread Android, but it still flies).

I am so crossing my fingers that Sony will make a Nexus phone. Seriously. Until then, I'm holding on to my Xperia arc. Even if the 380 MB internal storage space is making me weep.

I have a Samsung S3 and its great.  That being said if all things were equal between the two I'd probably get the Nexus, but if the Samsung is more easily available with better networks/plans in your area you can get it without a concern, its a really nice phone.

Out of those 2 options, I'd go for Nexus 4 as well. However, if you have a Galaxy Note 2 in your mind, Note2 all the way. :)

I'm looking for a new phone too.

How is the build of the Nexus? Is the camera any good?
The GS3 is nice but it feels really cheap for a 600â?¬ phone.
I'd get the Lumia 920, it's sturdy and sleak but I've heard the camera is actually incredibly disapointing.

For those who say the Note 2 is good, do you have one? I have two friends who have it and they said they have a LOT of technical issues. What are your experiences?

I've had an S3 since day 1 and love it. Granted, this is my first smartphone and I haven't had a chance to play around with the Nexus and live in Canada so I can't comment on coverage and such to the south. Really happy with the phone though.

I have 1 and I'm absolutely loving it. I have no idea what technical issues that your friend may experience, but since my purchase 2 months ago I've yet to experience any technical issues that will cause frustration. There are some minor hiccups tho, but really forgettable.

The biggest selling point for the note 2 is the battery. It lasts forever, It can go on for 2 days without charge on basic usage (make/answer calls, text, etc). On heavy usage, it can easily survive 1 complete day with no issues.

Next would be the stylus, but I've had friends mention that it's of no use to them and I don't blame them. Imo, the stylus is only useful to certain people like designers, developers, people that have to illustrate charts, diagrams and whatnot. It really makes a whole lot of difference when you can simply pull out your phone and draw out what you're trying to illustrate to your clients during a meeting.

The setback that I can think of is that it's so big, you can't really do much 1 handed. So if you find yourself very used to using your phone 1 handed, the transition to a note 2 may be difficult.
