The King's orders are absolute

Back on December 7th, 2012, while killing time in my hotel room before the Distant Worlds Final Fantasy The Celebration concert, I decided to kick off my current Let's Play series: Final Fantasy IV. For the last five weeks, I've been uploading my recordings on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule, while continuing to record episodes at a fairly steady pace. As of today, I've recorded up until episode 38. I'm pleased with how much I've improved in my commentary, not just from my first Let's Play of Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, but from the start of this LP up until where I left off today.

I hope you find this series enjoyable and informative as I reveal various strategies and even point out a glitch or two. Thanks a lot for watching!

Episode 16 is now up on youtube:

Why Baron decided it was a good idea to give the key to the city to a foreign monk who just happened to lose his memory is beyond me, but it is convenient to advancing the plot.

The dread Magnetic Cave (or Cave of Power in this translation). I used to hate this place, but with the right set up and strategy, it's actually not bad at all. Just bring holy arrows for Cecil, equip the melee fighters with bandanas and kenpo robes, and have Tellah use the Apparition Rod on the Panthers/Cait Sith enemies to prevent them using blaster to instant kill party members. I just wish I had recorded this episode later in the day, I sound tired, moreso than I thought I did at the time.

I liked what I did with the beginning of this episode. The status ailment I used the most in this dungeon was Mini so I could reduce the amount of damage physical-attacking enemies could do to me. I wasn't able to demonstrate any examples on screen, but the piggy status works on the Flame/Ice Dogs, and there are these devil-like enemies that you want to cast silence on if you see them or else they may counter attack with the confuse spell. Thanks for watching.

The battle against Barbariccia. I'm particularly pleased with this episode. The battle went smoothly, and I did pretty well with the commentary.

Entering the Tower of Babil. My commentary wasn't as good as it could have been, most likely because it was pretty much all dungeon crawling in this episode and most of the enemies were pretty generic or didn't appear for me to comment on. I don't remember why I felt the need to leave in the repeat treasure battles. The next episode is one of my favorites out of what I've recorded of this game so far, so I'm looking forward to uploading that on Monday. My overall commentary is going to see a lot of improvement soon as well.

One of my favorite episodes I've recorded, despite the misfortune that befalls the party in it. I had a lot of fun with the character voices between the Doctor and the goblin captains using the Giant Gun, and I'm personally pleased with the voice I gave to Rubicante on the fly. Watching it again, I realize I should've been doing a death counter for this series, particularly one that counts up and down. Oh well.

Re-entering the Tower of Babil with Edge. I get a very rare drop item in an early battle in this episode. It's also occured to me as I prepare to record the FFIV finale that I never actually demonstrate it once. I probably should've done that. Oh well.

The battle against Rubicante. The battle went pretty smoothly despite Rubicante being able to one-shot my party members with his strongest attack.

The Mysidian Legend gets fulfilled. But before that, Rydia learns a couple summons and Cecil acquires a very powerful cooking knife.

The Giant of Babil, one of my favorite parts of the game. It also has one of my favorite boss battles, which I decided to replace the game audio with something even more powerful for the fight.
