Pirate.

He didn't do it out of an interest in the public good. There were always $$$ and a wake of destruction that lacked compassion.

I heard there less Jobs at Apple now, than there was this time last year... Recession bites hard...

Sugar. Short AND sweet.

First I heard of it was when some of you started posting about it on Facebook last night. Not knowing he had cancer, that came out of left field for me. Not that I honestly care, as some of you have pointed out on Facebook he was a bit of an evil bastard.

Great men aren't everywhere, just where it counts.

If you ever see me online playing Halo, join me please.

Yeah, kind of sad, but it was obvious when he stepped down that he didn't have a lot of time left. He was an asshole, but if he hadn't been, a lot of what we do with computing wouldn't be as userfriendly. Just look at Google, they're a tech company run by engineers and when it comes to designing good UIs, they still have a looooong way to go.
I have come to loathe Apple's products because of the blind fanboys who wank over the merest mention of its name but I cannot deny that Jobs made a massive impact on the tech industry.
Hope you don't own a console. ;)

Two different cultures, though. Apple snoots look like those hip, wannabe-cool grown-up people who turn up their noses at anyone who doesn't own a white device with a fruit logo on it and who are infinitely more insufferable than the prepubescent console fanboys.

There's an easy solution to that.  Kick them in the balls.

It's like he was hanging on for the iPhone 5 annoucement and when they announced the 4S he just said "fuck it!" and left.

That said, great ideas, great innovation, great focus on the user experience.

I will probably never buy an Apple product, but I loved them in my youth. My Dad was a teacher, and during the summer they were allowed to check out school computers and bring them home, of course they were Apple Macintoshes. I got to play Oregon Trail and Number Munchers and stuff all summer on that thing. This was back before anyone I knew really had a home computer, so it was really special for me. We had an NES and a Commodore 64, but man that Mac was cool.

Eventually my parents bought a Mac that dual booted into DOS that we threw Windows 3.1 on. My Dad got promoted to a district level position and I was able to go to the district library with him during the summer and check out education mac games. Basically all the Sim Cities and Carmen Sandiegos you could want. Dino Park Tycoon was a fav.

Eventually I started booting into the DOS side more and more, playing the Wolfenstein 3D shareware and stuff like that, anything that I could find on a 3.5 diskette that would run on it. As my love of games grew, my resentment toward the Mac and it's limitations also grew, and it stands to this day.

Great design, easy to use. There's just not an Apple product out there right now that I can't find a better, cheaper, alternative for.

But thank you Steve Jobs. Those rented Macs and the first one we owned started me on a love of computers that eventually took me to where I am today, a Software Engineer, typing on a forum, procrastinating on writing code at work.

Ahh yes, the Apple Macs. Oregon Trail and Number Munchers. Good time, good times. Waay back in elementary school. I have an Iphone, but it's still first-gen. I use it for phone and music only. I use a PC, and will never own a Mac.

However, one cannot deny the genius of Steve Jobs, past and present. RIP.

I think they are very equal in insufferablity.

I can't stand a lot of Apple's products and their philosophies. But Jobs was a genius. A business genius if not technological genius and innovator. Sounded like a pretty miserable person (though he became less of a scrooge later in life; he and Apple contributed a nice amount of cash for the cause against Prop 8), but his great mind was undeniable. And if it wasn't for him, Pixar wouldn't exist.

I owe Apple my love of computers. My first ever experience using a computer was with an Apple IIe in first grade. All the old MECC edutainment software, and stuff like Oregon Trail.
