I'm not sure how I feel about this, but apparently they managed to get the go ahead from Square Enix, which is rare.

I think I remember seeing this on a Youtube link a while ago - it's a fanfilm by a bunch of cosplayers, nothing more.

I'm also suspicious of their claim "we have permission from Square Enix to do this" - if that was the case, how come the SE logo is nowhere to be seen on the webpage (which would have been a requirement)?

A while ago I read somewhere that SE are notorious for not giving permission to use their intellectual properties by third-parties for profit, other than projects SE themselves have initiated, thus making this seem even more unlikely. So yeah, I call bullshit on this.

They got the go-ahead for music, nothing else. This will be shut down very soon.

I don't know why exactly, but unlike other fanworks (Chrono Resurrection etc), I actually want this shut down. Maybe it's because the monetary value is so high and the project has nothing to back it up.

Maybe because their rewards are so annoyingly cutesy?

I get the feeling that SE's involvement in their conversations has been "yeah sure whatever."  It's not like they're the first seemingly serious fan project to approach them and evaporate before anything is actually made.

trust me, i'm a doctor

First and foremost, 4 days later it's still there having had a bit of media. I'm sure even SE has noticed. Though maybe their strategy is to only intervene if it gets funded. Second, at this rate it's not getting funded, unless they do an amazing AMA or interview or something, it just ain't happening at that rate. I'm indifferent either way, but it will be interesting to see how SE handles this and what that means for other future projects.

Fuuko Sakurada
Momoia =D

Looking at the rewards for backing up, I say;

- No DVD offered at any tier? aha -_-
- Will get funded fully ( or not ) lol
- Will then tell the community that SE shut them down
- Run away with money since the goal was reached

>_>

... I hope the poor people who donated got their money back -_-

When you back something on Kickstarter, they do not take your money until after the deadline assuming the target amount of money is met. So fortunately, everyone who backed it should not have had a single cent lifted from them. I'm actually surprised it took SE this long to pull the plug on it, they were faster with shutting down OverClocked ReMix's first kickstarter for their FFVI album (though I think that was dealing with a lot more money too).

Let's Play The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
Let's Play Final Fantasy VI

I was really surprised Kickstarter even let it go up on the site, but SE usually doesn't take anywhere near that long to get all DCMA on someone.

About damn time, this looked super sketch.

I really don't like how they claimed to be "official" yet "fans doing this for fun" yet "needed money".

Tons of claims were going on in several places, twitter, facebook, you name it. People attached to the project claiming they "know ___ staff from Squaresoft" when everyone I know was like "who are these people and HOW would they know these dudes? and these dudes don't even work on nor own the licensing they need!"

Official stuff looks good and mentions it's official + has official $$ or talent backing without the need to beg. Example is the Street Fighter live action one (not kickstarter any more tho).
