Big Tall
Taller Than Tall

Well....shit.  It's no secret that Punk is my favorite on the roster as one could tell from my avatar and name, but I agree that its an unprofessional thing to do.  After watching his dvd, Punk strikes me as a very goal oriented guy and someone who gets very annoyed very quickly being stuck in angles and situations which have no real purpose so I can't say that I'm too surprised at him walking out.  Also its been rumored that he's been wrestling injured since SummerSlam, so that may have factored into it.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he's still under contract with WWE until July.  So it'll be interesting to see if he pops back up after cooling down or if he'll ask to be let out of his contract early (which I don't think WWE would do) or if he'll just sit at home until his contract expires.

David Shoemaker (AKA The Masked Man) has a great piece on Grantland on the fallout and theories.

A big wrestling fan started working in the building a few months ago and it's got me somewhat interested in watching again. At the very least, I'm paying more attention now than I have since Austin left for good.

It really depends on what tickles your fancy in regards to wrestling.  For me, I could care less about 30 minute promos or ridiculous storylines.  I care about the actual in ring product, and feel that that combined with short 10 minute promos that make sense are all I need to enjoy it.  That's why I enjoy watching the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Antonio Cesaro, and guys like that.  Hell, I try to catch the Shine and SHIMMER ippvs when I have money available because they have some of the best women wrestlers that you can actually watch.

Tall, I read that article and it a lot of it is what I have been reading and listening to online.  It seems to be a a combination of different factors, and if Punk is as straight edge as he presents himself to be, then that means he's got 10 years of WWE style wear and tear without anything to take for the pain except maybe tylenol.  That, coupled with not main eventing wrestlemania for the last 3 years in favor of someone who's been out of the business for years all of a sudden popping back in plus other things...its a shame.  Though, assuming either side doesn't burn bridges with one another I wouldn't be shocked to see Punk want to come back after taking time off.

I don't know if anyone else is watching Raw, but the constant "CM PUNK" chat through the whole episode is very entertaining.

To be fair compared to the Attitude era there's a lot more actual wrestling matches now. I remember there was a study done in cutting down segments on RAW on average there was like only 20 minuites of actual wrestling per 2 hour show.

I think it comes with the territory that in the WWE focuses just as much with the promo segments with the actual wrestling. Which is fine but Daniel Bryan and CM Punk are no slouches in the "entertainment" aspect of "sports entertainment". Both have developed amazing characters and were part of memorable promo segments and backstage segmnets and provided a ton of entertainment on that level. Heck Daniel Bryan was given a measly 18 seconds at WM28 so Sheamus can look good, and Daniel Bryan pretty much ran with it and provided one of the more entertaining 1 to 2 mins (if you count the ring entrace) segents out there.  Of course the fact that they are also amazing in the ring just shows how talented they are.

If you were entertained by that, just wait until March 3rd when Raw is actually in Chicago.  That place will go nuclear for Punk.

You make a valid point.  I think it would've been more accurate for me to say that I'm not really interested in the promos that much, but there are guys that do entertain me.  Punk and Bryan are two examples of them.  Also the Wyatts and Ziggler can be entertaining on the mic.  Plus AJ Lee who is probably the only entertaining Diva WWE has on the main roster.

One of the best Wrestlemanias I can remember, with every match delivering (and even the clusterfuck divas and battle royals being better than expected).

Onto the Taker match, it was the worst I've ever seen him look in the ring. I don't know if this was perhaps intentional, with the old dog being put down vibes, but he just looked so slow and old, whereas every year for the past decade he's stolen the show. Age catches everyone up eventually I suppose. If this is the end, and I suspect it is, I can't imagine the WWE without him - he's been there virtually all of my life, and I still get excited about hearing the gong when Wrestlemania season rolls round.

This years Wrestlemania was probably the best one since 26.  All of the matches were decent at the very least to excellent.  After really fubaring the Daniel Bryan situation at Summerslam, it was nice to see WWE really rectify the whole situation by putting of Bryan in a huge way.  And I have to give credit to Triple H for having one of his best Wrestlemania matches and helping put over Bryan in the process.  A lot of credit goes to the fans for telling WWE in a very vocal way that this is where they wanted to see Daniel Bryan.

The Shield completely dominated Kane & the NAO.  Not even much to talk about.  I will say that I'm glad The Shield is still a unit, and I kinda see The Shield being this generation's Four Horsemen in the sense of being a badass face stable.

I was glad to see Cesaro winning the battle royal.  I thought that Rusev guy was going to debut and win it, but I'm very happy to see Cesaro win it.  The crowd has really taken a liking to Cesaro because the guy is just awesome in the ring, and the fans respect that.  He's very likely going to have a good year.

I'm dissapointed to see Cena winning his match with Bray Wyatt, but it wasn't a bad match by any means plus I don't think their story is over.  They told a very interesting story in this match with Wyatt trying to get Cena to completely lose his cool, and coming close several times during the match.  Bray Wyatt is such a different character than anyone on the current roster, I really hope WWE keeps him and the rest of the Wyatts strong.  Also, Cena put over Wyatt as a huge threat in this match so I don't think Wyatt losing hurts him too much.

The Streak vs. the Beast.  I was absolutely shocked at the outcome of this match.  I would've never guessed in a million years that The Undertaker was ever going to lose at Wrestlemania, and let me say that the crowd was absolutely stunned into silence when the referee hit the mat a third time.  I think they were all waiting for something to happen to reverse what they just saw, but that didn't happen.  That match itself wasn't that great, but I've read that The Undertaker legitimately got knocked out during the match and suffered a concussion and left to go to the hospital after the match.  If that's the case, that might explain why that match wasn't as good as Taker's matches years past.  Of course, it could also be that his age caught up to him or a combination of both.  Either way, it was a shock and it takes away a major selling point for future Wrestlemanias.

The Diva's Invitational wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.  The Divas that could wrestle were given the most time to shine, which was the smartest way to book the match.  Plus AJ Lee retained which is good.  Ideally, I would love Paige from NXT to come up to the main roster and wrestle AJ.  They would tear the house down given the chance.

And of course, Daniel Bryan winning the triple threat to win the championship was a great moment.  Like I said before, WWE really fubared Daniel Bryan post Summerslam and the fans just refused to let WWE drop Bryan back down the card.  The fans love Bryan, and they have been very very vocal in their support for Bryan going as far as actually hyjacking the Royal Rumble title match and rumble itself sending the WWE a clear message.  So kudos for WWE (and Vince in particular) for listening to the fans.  As for the match itself, it was pretty decent considering Batista was involved in it.  Props to Triple H again bringing out his crooked referee, props to Stephanie for kind of taking the Daniel Bryan leap outside with the referee and Trips, and again props to Triple H taking the sledgehammer shot.  That really fired the crowd up, and the near finishes with Orton and Batista nearly pinning each other after Bryan hitting a big move on one or the other.  And then finally Bryan getting Batista to tap out.  Great end to a pretty damn good show.

I'm just disappointed that the Taker streak got ended by Brock fucking Lesnar of all people. I would've preferred it to be at least a full-time guy, if not someone who could've used the rub. Hell, I would've even taken John Cena over Lesnar.

At least Bryan won the championship. I think after 21-1, the night needed to end on a feel good moment and that went nicely.

As a kid I was huge Ultimate Warrior fan. I'll never forget the match where he took down Hogan. That moment afterword when he(Hogan)hands over the belt and then the two hug is still one of the best moments in pure sportsmanship that I've seen.

The above is a link to a video from his appearance on RAW.....he looked positvely ill here and his words damn near prophetic. It's like he knew he wasn't long for this world.

I recall that match. You don't see many like that nowadays. Shame Hogan wasn't as giving in WCW, then again, Vince was always better when it came to saying 'no' to Hogan than Bischoff.

This is one of those deaths that's like Eddie's. It was very unexpected. I wonder what happened and if maybe Warrior knew something that motivated him to bury the hatchet with Vince.

I wasn't able to watch WMXXX, but based on the results I watched RAW for the first time in about 10 years...and really enjoyed it. I don't know 80% of the wrestlers, but post-WM is usually a good time to jump in as a lot of storylines and angles are just starting up (or that used to be the way, anyway). Here we go again.

Yeah I thought about that but thinking about it I am perfectly fine for Lesnar to end the streak despite being part time. The thing about Lesnar is that he is the "real deal" as far as being a legit monster is concerned. He's a former MMA fighter and UFC Champion among his atheltic cridentials and looks like he can rip anyone in half.

The WMXXX match Undertaker looked like a frail old man compared to Lesnar, while I was watching that match I was thinking to myself. No way Undertaker looked like he can beat Lesnar in a physical and competative fight. So yeah I can buy Lesnar beign the one to end Taker's streak.

As for Cena ending it, well Lesnar is already a heel. Unless WWE has plans for Cena to turn into a long term heel, Cena being the one to end Takers streak will cause a lot of fans to hate Cena even more.

Ideally a young up-and-comer, face or heel, would've been the one to break the Streak. It would've been a potential career-creating moment. I would've personally hated Cena being the one to end the streak because he doesn't need the rub at all. But at least he's on the roster full-time. Lesnar being the one to end the streak doesn't really do anything. It led to an admittedly incredible promo by Paul Heyman and then Brock will disappear for awhile.

Taker also got a pretty serious concussion mid-match so I have to wonder if the Streak being broken by Brock was the plan all along or they had to adapt on the fly.

I am reasonably sure that the match ended much earlier than intended because of that injury.
