Fanbaiting is one thing but bullshots? SE has never had to resort to that before.

They need to shop up a screenshot this epic for the crafting classes.

trust me, i'm a doctor

The new art is very intriguing.  I just want to run around in those new environments.  Either way I bought half year worth of crysta when XIV came out, might as well as give it a try when 2.0's out.

I still have to wonder why they just didn't wait to come out with this far better looking game in the first place.

I know they wanted to bring it out in time to compete with WoW Cataclysm and The Old Republic, but I think rushing it out really killed that game's potential and reputation, something from which it may never recover.

"I still have to wonder why they just didn't wait to come out with this far better looking game in the first place. "

Because they tried to do it on the cheap by outsourcing it, which obviously didn't pay off. Now before anyone says it, it's naive to say that "well they shouldn't have outsourced" - all companies do in some manner. However it's blindingly obvious that SE didn't just outsource the development of particular sections but rather they outsourced the entire game with very little management.

As such the "onshore" specialists who are normally supposed to manage quality and architectural decisions clearly had no involved in this title, or were overruled. I mean seriously, not only have they to rebuild the graphics engine, but the entire server and networking architecture need to be replaced too.

They are now putting more than 250 staff on it, which probably makes it one of the most expensive titles ever made. FFXI's development team is essentially been absorbed by it, and I really wouldn't expect many titles from SE for the next two years until they get this mess sorted out.

I'm still trying to imagine what SE is getting out of this even if they give the game a major overhaul. It's pretty much rebuilding the game from scratch but still attatching it to the repulation and legacy of the first incarnation of FFXIV, its going to turn off a lot of people. Are pissed off early adapters of FFXIV willing to pay for a monthly subscription after having to endure such a bad product?

I would think they're better off just scrapping FFXIV and just move on. FFXIV is probably going to get killed by The Old Republic and WOW anyways.

They also outsourced the game to the wrong people, i.e. Chinese gamefarms. The entire life of FFXIV has been a complete and total, undeniable disaster and it's something Square Enix might never recover from.

I hope FFXIV becomes to Wada what TSW was to Sakaguchi. But unlike Sakaguchi, Wada never gets back on his feet because he's such a hack.

Is this enough to play FFXIV?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpftrjYCzpA

It almost is for me.

What exactly is the story behind this?  I'd love to know.  FFXIV seemed boring and blah, but then I saw this and am dying to know more.  I'll never look at moogles the same way again.

Apparently it's a new sort-of Primal battle against the moogles' long-lost god-like king - there's info about it on the Lodestone:

Evidently the battle was added to the game in the last (1.20) patch, but I'm not sure if that actually occurred (I haven't downloaded the patch yet r even logged into the game in several months now).

Still interesting either way.

Considerably less exciting when you see the fight.

FF11 did it better (and that's not saying much).

I still think they should've just announced that FFXIV will not be online, that their new Final Fantasy MMO will be entitled differently, and that they'll stop this bullshit of trying to integrate an MMO to their main numbered series.

FFXI won its place in the series a very long time ago.

FFXI was such a great experience.

I often wish I could go back to the CoP days and just have that enthusiasm I had to play it back then.

The days when CoP came out were the days that will always define FFXI for me, too.
