I Am Pure Energy

I'm surprised that other networks haven't tried to serialize other fantasy novels given the mainstream success of Game of Thrones.

I'm not sure if it would work. Game of Thrones is a great show that happens to be in the fantasy genre, not a show in the fantasy genre that happens to be great.

I'm going to try SCIENCE!

And of course, having learned nothing from last month, HBOGO is showing the season 4 premeire by once again shitting fire and blood.

Fuck HBOGO. Stupid outdated business model, and a website to show for it apparently.

Solid season premiere. Probably the best one. Pedro Pascal certainly acts the part of Oberyn, for now at least. I'll also say they handled Jaime's premature return back to King's Landing almost as well as they could've. Almost. Because his conversation with Tywin was far more tame than in the book.

And Jon Snow was actually good in this episode! Well, they gave him good material for only the second time all series, that's why.

And also:
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Arya gets her Needle back! w00t. After a table scene that clearly drew inspiration from Inglourious Basterds. But now how is the Hound going to get mortally wounded?

The cold open was awesome as hell.

The rest of the ep was very meh. Everyone looked bored to be here.

Oh well, looking forward to more... pigeon pies.

If there's anything I learned from True Detective, it's that time is a flat circle.

And that HBOGO is hilariously unstable under pressure on Big Episode Night, I suppose.

I've been there, hombre.

Great episode. Wow, seeing Arya on screen compared to reading about her makes you realize what a damn psychopath she is and how brutally everything's affected her.

And Daario... wow, they didn't even try to make him look like the first guy, did they?

Book spoilers:

Long live the king.

If nothing else about this episode, they did it justice.

My friend went nuts tonight because she kept saying this was gonna happen. It's tough for me because I actually read the books long ago and I want to tell her why it's just going to keep getting better.

That conversation is the only thing that bugged me in this episode. It felt really out of place.
Brienne's in King's Landing and she interacts with everyone except the two people she's actually supposed to talk to: Sansa and Loras.

Yeah, Loras not freaking out at her is a loss.  Her not talking to Sansa just doesn't make any sense, really.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
But oh well Sansa's on her way out the gates now, so that ship has sailed, pun fully intended.

They put Brienne and Jaime back in King's Landing early and all we've really gotten out of it is 1) Awesome Joffrey snark last week and 2) sword trainer Bronn this week.

Edited to add:  and 3) Olenna Tyrell's awesome "MY WORD" last week.
