Demo on PS4 right now.

A Silent Hill game staring Norman Reedus, directed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. Amazing.

The demo seems genuinely terrifying, watching a bunch of Twitch steams at the moment.

I'm excited about Kojima taking the reigns of Silent Hill.  I'll always be a fan and I don't dislike any of the games, but it's time the series gets a refreshing new direction, which is what this sounds like it will be.  The series that started the Survial Horror genre deserves to live on.

I've also enjoyed the Guillermo Del Toro horror movies I've seen so far, and of course Norman Reedus is win.

I have never had feelings so mixed.

Silent Hill, yay!
Del Toro, yay!
Reedus, yay!
Legit scary, yay!
Kojima?  Um.
Post-PS2 Silent Hill?  Ew.
Reedus' face?  Uggggggggh*.
Knowledge that Reedus' character will probably be a badass?  *HEAVY SIGH*

*(Nothing personal, I just hate when games use recognizable people's real faces, it's immensly distracting.)

Fuck Shit Stack.

The PT looked really awesome and was fucking scary.
I hope they can keep that same feeling through out the game. Well have to see. This is definitely getting me way more interested in the PS4 now.

Well that may be, but why are you mentioning it in a Silent Hill thread?

PT is so great.  I just wish I could figure out that last puzzle. >.>

Haha, my mistake.  It was Resident Evil that started survival horror, not Silent Hill.

So I figured those who don't have a PS4 to try this game out would like a review from a peer.... let me start off by saying a few things about myself first. I love the horror genre and have never backed down from a scary game or movie aside from one movie that I had to turn off and watch in the daylight which was White Noise. I've gotten ten minutes into this game and I just can't do it. The reactions in the trailor are legitimate reactions to this experience.

So it's scary. Kojima straight up said I don't care if it's too scary to play I want you to shit your pants. He wasn't joking.

Other things to note:
Unexpectedly this is the most realistic looking game I've ever seen. The scale of the rooms and hallways seem realistic. The textures, lighting effects, the water... it looks beautifully twisted. Extremely convincing. Looks like it is designed to be played in VR also which imo is worse than water boarding.

All that being said, if you buy a PS4 for this, you might be just buying a PS4 to have the game sit next to it in its case. Don't spoil it by watching gameplay. Go to a friends house and try it without knowing anything.

Sorry, I don't follow.  Are you saying you think it'll be too scary to play?  If so, it looks like this is the game I've been waiting for.

Anyway, thanks for the review, Scribe.  I don't too much trust the opinion of any review sites out there, so it's good to hear an opinion from one of us.  It seems like the internet (outside of FFS) hates games.  And everything else.

The 15 minute video I saw had the creepiest atmosphere I've witnessed in any movie or game so far.  That radio, man.  Wow.  If I had a PS4 I'd be all over this demo.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
I said, look behind you.

P.T. demo is creepy as hell.  I can't stop playing it.  I've gotten more enjoyment out of this free interactive teaser than the $30 MGS demo we got a few months ago...

Yes, they are creating a game that even the bravest of players are going to want to pause and maybe even put down and not finish.

Insert witty remark here.

I watched a video of someone playing the P.T.  All I have to say is: Holy. Shit.

Eh.  There are a couple of games that I can only play in shorts bursts because of the fear/tension (I'm looking at you, Fatal Frame), but I always finish them.  It just takes longer.

I think I'm gonna like what they're doing with the series, but to me the heart of the Silent Hill series isn't about the scary monsters and the environments.  It's about watching the pscyhological trauma of the main character unfold over the course of the game until we finally discover the truth about their problems and how fucked up their life or somebody else's life really is.  If they implement this with what I've seen of the demo, it could blow the rest of the series out of the water.
