It's you guys' fault

Did Tabata work on anything besides Type-0?  If not, that's quite a jump.  Either the company has a lot of faith in him, or very little faith in 15.  >_>

That said... honestly I like Nomura.   I hope he still has a place in the company and can throw more belts and zippers on things.  Maybe not as many as before though.

It's not like it's anything new, but there's something about that HUGE-ass sword that I really like.  Gives me hope for a fun battle system.

Also, Nomura's character designs have never really bothered me.  In fact, I really like all the FFXV designs so far.  It took long enough, but I really have high hopes for this game.

Tabata becoming director this far into the gazillion year development process probably won't do a whole much as far as creative direction goes. But hey, at least it isn't Toriyama, who I still wonder how he manages to have a job.
You and me both.  Tabata apparently took the thing over two years ago and is the reason it has gotten anywhere.  He is apparently done more in the last 2 years than Nomura did in the first 6.  By a lot.  He reorganized all of the departments and got shit done.

Crisis Core is his other big one.

Here are a couple of articles that take about the game from Siliconera.

So no female playabe characters and an open world that you can explore....sort of.

I believe those dudes were talking about some female characters in the trailer. Also keep in mind that it's only a trailer, and the final product could very well change and have female characters in there early and often.

Let's not put Squeenix quite on the same level as Ubisoft just yet.

Well, I take this back. Fuck you, Squeenix.

Does there always have to be a story involving females? I mean couldn't there just once be a case of all men for the sake of 4 friends growing up together or whatever. I don't care who is mad about this, I'm super happy there isn't a female PC in the game. It's refreshing :)

Maybe if you miss the fucking 1950s, it's refreshing. For a game that's due for 2015, it's stupid.

And this is like, 100x worse than AC: Unity. For all the bullshit that was, at least that's a single player game with one main character. This is a full damn party. I can't wait for the lame excuses Squeenix is going to issue when pressed on this further; I bet they'll be even weaker than Ubisoft's.

Also, it's a retarded business decision. Here's a chance to revitalize a flagging franchise for the next generation of consoles, and ... you intentionally leave out roughly one half of the gaming population. It may be too late to change that now, but I hope whomever came up with this decision back when it was vsXIII is preparing to commit harakiri.

Even if half of the console gaming population was female, I doubt even the majority of them would care about one Final Fantasy game not having a female in its playable cast. If I'm understanding you correctly here, every game from now until the end of time should include one or more female playable character in order to be a politically correct story? I fucking hate politically correct stories. I really hate rules blocking the creative process as well. I get you are probably part of the group that has their feathers riled about tropes but this is asking too much.

Wait, wait a second.

For you it's "refreshing" to play a game where all the playable characters are male.

This means that there is some large amount of games that DO feature playable female characters that have left you (forgive the coinage) de-freshed.

Mind pointing me in the direction those games are?  Because in my locality, it's the consistent lack of female playable characters in games that has left me de-freshed.  Perhaps we can both benefit from refereshing game perspectives in this way.

It's cool, whether you see it my way or not: I'll still get the game I want and you'll still be crying unjustified rivers. Life goes on.

A Final Fantasy game with all male cast*

Now now sir, comments like that make it sound as if you're not posting in good faith.  Surely there is no indication that Rhaegar will cry because of Square-Enix's current decision.  And even if he were to, what of it?  Surely crying can be at times healthy and theraputic.  I wouldn't begrudge a person for crying if that is the way their body and emotions lead them to, and snide insinuations that paint the expression of strong emotion in a negative light do nothing to elevate the current discourse.

In any case, the gaming landscape that I have experienced has been replete with male-only playable perspectives, and indeed Final Fantasy has been for almost the entirety of its existence a series that has, in its own way, bucked that expectation.  Indeed two of its main-series games feature female main characters, which happens... let us say "rarely" in the broader gaming context.  So, rather than being refreshed by the current entry in the main-line series eschewing female playable characters, I find it rather disappointing, in the sense that Square-Enix has somewhat reneged in its expectations.  Not to say that I will reject the game fully because of this, merely that I find the choice questionable.

No crying from me. Just a sudden lack of interest and a desire to see the game fail. I'll never cry over getting to keep my $60 in my pocket to save for something else.
