Crono can cross dimensions too!

Empire Strikes Back is the only good Star Wars movie.  [/flameon]

On topic, it's a teaser.  I absolutely hate teasers.  Who knows whether I'll like the movie or not, I'm certainly not going to try and guess that based off of 3 seconds of a film that half of won't even be in the film (probably).  Give me an actual preview and then we'll talk.

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

I've been there, hombre.

I'm not a big follower of the EU, but I don't have any problems with the general idea of it. But it would've been too restrictive to make a new trilogy in.

So, you're interested in the film because it led to the cancellation of a book series that many people enjoyed, and that nobody was forcing you to read?

Okay, then.

I don't see how that's any different than being unenthusiastic about it (and making shit up about a shaky cam ... it wasn't shaky to me) because it canceled a series that you happen to like. Nobody's forcing you to watch this movie, either.

Also, I don't know of too many people who enjoyed the New Jedi Order, Legacy and Fate series. Those were pretty roundly bashed. The only post-Trilogy series that have a strong following are the X-Wing series and the Thrawn trilogy  ... which not coincidentally are the 5% of the post-Trilogy EU that I did like. So ...

I'd say it's different to me because all I really want at this point is coexistence.  Sure, in my ideal world Episode VII would have been adapted from the books, but that ship has long since sailed.  I'd be way more open to this movie* as a fun alternate take on post-ROTJ events if they'd keep throwing a couple Star Wars Legends paperbacks a year at me to continue the storylines I like.   There's really no reason not to.  Hell, they're still publishing Star Trek novels from its original, pre-Abrams universe and the world isn't ending.

And let's not do that whole, "nobody likes the EU anyway" thing.  I'm not trying to say all Star Wars fans like those series you mentioned.  I'm not saying they should like them.  But there is a fanbase out there for them, of which I am obviously a part.  They wouldn't have kept publishing them for so long otherwise, and they wouldn't have been hitting the New York Times bestseller list on a regular basis.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with ya, man.  If I came across that way, I apologize.  Star Wars is big enough that everybody should be able to find their niche.

*That teaser would still only have warranted a yawn from me, though.

...you can still like the EU as much as you want. You're free to ignore the movie, not like EU novels are going out of print.

They aren't publishing any more, though.  That's the problem.   Crucible, the last novel in the timeline, left a fair amount of loose ends.

Some actually are going out of print in some respects. A lot of deals are being changed since Disney took over, Dark Horse lost the Star Wars comics licence for example, which means Dark Horse can't reprint stuff.

Looks ok. Neat designs. That Sith lightsaber is silly as fuck. I want lightsaber nunchucks. Glad Abrams dialed back his lens flareness, unless he just hasn't added them all in in post yet.

I predict some hardcore corporate control from Disney. Given Star Trek Into Darkness showed how cynical Abrams could get when he's dealing with existing properties, I sense the theme of the movie will be "Hey guys, remember Empire Strikes Back?"

BUT I like Larry Kasdan and don't think he's quite the cynic.

So, end result: competent, enjoyable somewhat "safe" 80s throwback movie, which'll get by on having a bit more heart and personality than the norm. Callin it!

tl;dr- I'll watch it to help Abrams rape the childhoods of all those dumbshits bitching about the black stormtrooper.

Yeah, that is seriously ridiculous. Bitching about Heimdall in Thor being black? Yeah, okay I can sort of see where that comes from. Bitching about Johnny Storm being black in the (going to be craptastic) Fantastic Four reboot? Again, sure.

But complaining about the skin colour of someone who is part of a group whose faces were never, ever shown is just plain ri-goddamn-diculous. The whole platoon could have been black in the original trilogy!

*gets off soapbox*

Oh and don't give me that codswallop about the troop all being clones of Jango Fett because that was the Clone Troopers only. It's already been established as canon that the Stormtroopers were recruited.

*gets off nerd soapbox*

Not a lot to go on yet. The new lightsaber does seem like a good idea. Maybe this sith saw Anakin, Dooku, and Luke having their hands chopped off and figured a crossguard will help to prevent just that.

To be honest, when I read about people commenting on a black Stormtrooper I thought people were talking about a Shadow Stormtrooper. LoL
This is just silly.
