It was a lot of "Hey remember what happened to these people (main cast edition)"

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Sansa and Littlefinger riding right fucking past Brienne and POD THE ROD stretches my incredulity a little.  Like that's one too many coincidences in that particular storyline.

Book Lancel:  Starts out looking like a Jaime fanboy, ends up looking like an old man.
Show Lancel:  Starts out looking like a weirdo in a wig, ends up looking... actually sorta handsome?  What the hell, HBO.

Also, the tastefully-hidden-penis count for this episode was really high.

I know how they work

Best part of the episode was buff, hottie Lancel.  That's a change I can get behind.

Everything else was okay.  I was talking to someone else about the episode and I realized there aren't really any storylines I'm looking forward to.  I loved Cersei's Feast for Crows chapters, but I feel like without having access to her thoughts to see how much of a delusional nutcase she is, it won't be nearly as fun.  And they've MASSIVELY changed Jaime's storyline, which was my favorite story in FfC/DwD.  And they cut my beloved Fat Manderly.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, I'm just not crazy excited like I was for the previous seasons.

[Who is this random meathead chatting up Cer--]
"Cousin Lancel?"
[What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck?!]

It's like.. the show-runners decided to sexy-up Maggy the Frog, and decided to turn Lancel into a beefcake to balance it out.

Yikes and away!

Yeah, didn't care for Maggy's sexing up, but miniCersei was brilliant and had all of Lena Headey's mannerisms down - that was a great casting call.

And Loras: "Renly who? lawl"

Some book spoilers/speculation:
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
So I guess Mance is for real dead? And Tormund will be taking over Winterfell duties? That's a bit of a shame - while I never cared for the "glamour" bit in the books, what a waste of a wonderful actor in Ciaran Hinds.

I'm so excited to see Kevan Lannister I can't even begin to say. It's sad he wasn't too much a presence in earlier seasons (other than briefly in season 2), but I really hope the show sells the "Diet Tywin" idea.

Has anyone watched the leaked episodes?

Edit: I also personally enjoyed all the manass, but man, there was so much nearly penis. They should just show penis (like in season 1) and get it over with.

"How will I know you're paying attention if I'm not also somehow tittilating you at the same time?"
*leans further forward to give the camera a better look at her boobs*

Well, I was thinking about this, and really, I think the big issue with male- versus female-nudity is visual arousal, which possibly influences whether or not a scene is considered "pornographic".  A woman who is naked and aroused on screen looks roughly the same as a woman who is naked and not aroused--where for, uh, obvious reasons the same can't be said for male actors.  And, I mean, I would imagine that Loras and Man-Roz would be visually aroused, given the scenes context.

Daario not so much, but maybe the actor specifically just didn't want to?

And probably fewer actors in general are willing to let their Shai-Hulud out to play.  Female nudity is generally the norm, and male nudity more of a rarity, so it wouldn't surprise me if it were harder to find and/or convince an actor to do it.

[edit, unrelated] HOLY SHIT that's the same actor playing Lancel.  I guess that fucking horrible wig was working overtime hiding his generally attractive face.

In the context of this episode, I get that - but even then, back in season 1 Theon showed his pride and treasures after just being with Ros. I thought it was so nice and refreshing to see that back in season 1 (instead of just boobs and boobs alone), but that clearly hasn't stuck. Even in context here - Olyvar is a whore, and it'd make sense to see him without clothes on (even if they were just barely getting into foreplay by the time Margaery barges in - and I'd imagine that'd be a bit of a buzzkill). Many of the actors too have expressed a wish for more male nudity, and it'd be really nice to see some equality on that end.

Fun fact: This episode had a couple "Last of the Mohicans" moments - Maggy was the youngest sister, and Mance's final scene. I found that neat.

I've watched half of the 2nd episode. Hope to watch the 2nd half and 3&4 tonight.

That is a fun fact and neat observation.

EDIT - Finished 2 and 3. Episode 3 was great. Some threads are quite surprising...

EDIT 2 - Episode 4. Not as good as 3.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Jaime & Bronn should be good fun.

I feel like most of episode 2 was just more catching up with people we hadn't seen since last season, some truncated/abbreviated bits from the books, and a few kicks in the pants of book loyalists.  And confirmation that we're so far off the books' course that we're practically in uncharted waters.

It's interesting to me how multiple book characters/plots are being compressed into each other for the economies of television.  But hey, whatever gets more Indira Varma on my TV screen is fine with me.

IN VAGUELY RELATED ISSUES:
HBO Now, on an Apple device, works fine.  HBO now on a PC?  Is hot garbage.  Something about the website itself was causing my computer to chug hardcore, which was very disapointing.  Ended up watching on my phone.  Will have to get it installed on a tablet before the next ep.

I also watched the leaked episodes. For the most part I'm OK with how off-book they're taking the story now. In fact, with TWoW still unreleased, I actually prefer it.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
I seriously hope that they haven't just swapped Sansa in for the Fake Arya/Jeyne Poole. Do we need to see even HALF the shit that happens to her in ADWD? But the fact that TV Ramsay has that girlfriend Myranda that's obviously jealous of Sansa's presence tells me that the story will hopefully go in a very different direction. But am I the only one who thought Ramsay slaughtered Myranda in bed since he came out to fight Yara & co. already covered in blood in season 4?

I don't really care for how they ended episode 4. BUT...

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
We get more Rhaegar talk in this episode than probably every other episode before it combined. Now I'm curious to see how the Unsullied show watchers react to the very contradictory information that's given about him.

Regarding the end of that first spoiler:
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
I assumed she did that to HIM, because they're both into weirdo violence kink stuff.

Well it's Ramsay.  Assume the worst, and you're probably not too far off most of the time.,

I'm going to try SCIENCE!

At this point I'm pretty sure Sansa has less to worry about from Ramsay than Ramsay's Pain Bitch girlfriend
