I'm caught up now. Since HBO wants to be douche bags, I watched them through "other means". Seriously, I wanted to give them my money, but "exclusivity" with Apple is more important than potential revenue. So disappointed with their HBO Now service.
I'm surprised at how much I chuckled so far. My favorite bit is

when Tyrion is on the boat with Ser Jorah all gagged up.
From what I read, they are condensing books 4 & 5, so that the end of the season should catch every plot up to current events. Next season will be uncharted waters, as far as what goes on in the story. I'm actually excited for it, because we'll get an ending for it finally. It may not be how GRRM ends up writing it, but I think that the show runners have a good grasp of what his vision is for the rest of the series, and will do it justice. They haven't done a bad job so far, and this has actually been one of my favorite shows ever.
How long do you think the show will last at this pace? I'm thinking 7 seasons. Eight, if they want to drag it out awhile longer.

Some parts are good! Lots of parts are bad.
Lots of changes, which isn't a problem in and of itself. In Mereen in particular, they're taking what was already a mostly bad plot and making it... significantly dumber.
But honestly I'd keep watching this show no matter how bad it gets for one reason:
Too bad he's fuckin' doomed*
.
(*That is speculation, not spoileration.)

I'm going to try SCIENCE!
I'm just wondering why Jorah thinks Dany gives one flying fuck about Tyrion, let along that bringing him to her would be enough to break him out of the figurative friend zone/literal exile

Well,
1) Jorah is neither the smartest nor the most rational,
2) The Lannisters, via Tywin and his various henchmen, are responsible for the worst parts of the Baratheon Rebellion that directly affected Dany's immediate family. Robert might have killed Rhaegar, but it was Lannister men who butchered his wife and children, and a Lannister who killed the (mad) king.
3) I don't know that Jorah really understands the vastness of the rift that's torn the Lannister family apart.
4) Tyrion could potentially be a lot of things to Dany, from Jorah's perspective. A vengeful sacrifice. A unwilling, or willing, source of information. At his core: a symbol, a well-known and easily-recognized* member of the ruling family whom Dany has sworn to take back the throne from. An offering.
5) Again... Jorah is not the smartest nor the most rational,
particularly when Dany is involved
.
*(Moreso in the books than on the show, really, thanks to the Dinkledgening.)

Yeeeeeah ... this show is awfully close to straight jumping the shark. Dorne and Winterfell are just awful, and that last scene ... just not necessary.

Well, at least that final scene wasn't as extreme as what happened in the book...

Um, what? That scene was basically there because D&D love

seeing their female characters get raped.
What was in ADWD that was more extreme than that? At least in that respect?

The Jeyne Poole stuff was more hinted at rather than explicitly described. And the show's depiction was more fetishistic than anything, which made it disturbing.

That scene coming to life was something I dreaded when I first read ADwD. All I meant to say was that I was relieved they didn't adapt it
exactly
as it appeared in the book because it was so much more brutal.
Spoiler:
Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
It's been a couple years since I read ADwD but the whole "You will make her wet for me, Reek." thing in particular is what horrified me.
