I'm still processing this information personally. I'm not nearly as excited as a lot of other people are, partially because FFVII is not in my top three favorites in the series, and also because I'm concerned over just how much stuff is going to be retconned or added to account for the Compilation of FFVII stuff. I'm pretty sure it was confirmed already but it's really a given that Square Enix will add material associated to all the spinoff games and Advent Children, I just hope they exercise restraint and good judgement in deciding what to shoehorn into the remake. I for one do not want to see more than a passing reference to Genesis for example.

And I hope they keep the Materia and battle systems mostly the same with some improvements. I want to have control over the whole party in battles, issuing direct commands just like in the original. I'm expecting random encounters to be removed in favor of enemies roaming the fields and corridors. I have no idea when I'll be getting a PS4 but I hope this game will be worth it when the time comes.

With all the weird dialogue ("I'll chop it off", "I'll rip it off," etc., plus all Cid and Barrett's #%$!'s), I kinda would be okay if there was no voiceacting whatsoever. Plus, you know, both Red XIII and Cait Sith sounded weird in Advent Children.

Nomura has already hinted at the gameplay "evolving." I don't think we're getting ATB + materia as we know it anymore. He basically said if we want the gameplay intact, to play the HD remaster coming out later this year. He mentions additions to the story as well.

I'm excited, but with reservations. I do love everything about the original, like the ATB and Materia, but I know they'll crush my hopes on that end. Something will change the perfect system of VII and it won't be the same.

I hope they work something--somehow--with the Buster Sword being the top weapon. That was one of the things that never made sense to me in VII, that the Buster Sword was basically a piece of crap, especially after they inserted all the lore with Crisis Core.

As long as they don't add any fur to Cloud, I might be okay with whatever.

Really though, am I wrong to feel excited? I mean, Squeenix has done some dumb shit as a company and it's easy to believe they can screw the pooch all over again, but this announcement just left me feeling jazzed, almost giddy. I haven't felt this particular sort of excitement for an FF in a long time. Certainly not from the kerjumbled mess of what ended up being FF13 and its sequels... not FF12... maybe the months leading up to 10 was the last time I felt this particular way? And that didn't pay off as much as I'd have liked to. I think it's tapping into a sense of nostalgia that I honestly haven't felt in a while. Of course, nerd nostalgia is the most volatile substance known to man, so I hope they understand what they're dealing with.

I think SE's turnaround started with FFXIV - that game single-handedly crushed the company and also saved it. You don't have to go further than the FFXIV forum here, and see diehard FFO fans going from "lol a MMO" to "actually, this is kinda fun".

SE games are now coming to Steam, Android, iOS, both new and old ones. They have online forums, they communciate to fans.

SE 2015 isn't the SE of 2000, but it's not the backwards ass SE of about 5 years ago either.

It looks really good, but I can't justify paying for two MMOs and I can't stop playing WoW*.

(*Okay, I can, but I don't want to, because I'd rather play an MMO where I know people and have friends than try and start from scratch again.)

If they leave the gameplay the same I'll finally buy a PS4, but they'll screw it up and won't get my money. Frankly, if they disgrace it I hope they go out of business. Final Fantasy < Cat Poop since 10 anyways.
