I agree it warrants an HD re-release, and I agree with the above.

I'll throw one other thing into the mix on this. I may be off base on this, but I feel like FFXII released before we got a slew of Western RPGs on consoles (Fallout, Mass Effect, Witcher, etc) and other open world games (I know FFXII isn't open world, but it FEELS like an open world game, at least to me). I had never played a Western RPG on a console prior to the last gen. I know that they have been around forever on PC, but I feel like on consoles they just weren't really a big deal until this past gen. That said, I feel like FFXII has a lot of the best parts of a WRPG in it, despite being a JRPG. Going back to play FFXII after spending so much time playing WRPGs the past 5-6 years has really made me appreciate FFXII ALOT more in the small snippets I've played.

I really want to give it a fair play through from beginning to end again post-exposure to WRPGs as I think my feelings on the game would be vastly different. Even on partial play throughs or going back to visit old areas, my opinion on it has increased tremendously from when I first played it. Fix the camera and it will be pure gold.

I agree. FF12 has allt he best aspects of WRPG in a JRPG.  Most WRPGs only have "choice" as an illusion anyway, so it isnt' missing much that WRPGs can offer.

Bioware has explicitly stated that the battle system from DA: Origins is directly and heavily influenced by the system in FFXII.

Agreed especially the first Mass Effect games, that game was the prime example as choice being just an illusion.

I remember playing FFXII the first time and I remember having a 70 hour playtime before going to the final area. And no this wasn't oh I am at the last part let me do all these side quests and grinding. Between the main mission I would actually explore the world and do all these side quests and side bosses (you get from the moogle). In other words I got plesantly lost in this game that I didn't need the main story to keep me distracted.

I guess FFXII does need some fine tuning (auto save feature, identifying side quests easier) but overall I loved what they  did with FFXII.

Sure they could have had a stronger story, especially the final act, but replaying FFX, where the exposition worn out its welcome, I'll take it at a semi-blessing in disguise.

I just enjoy the fact that Vaan is the nominal main character, but you can actively never use him once the party gets together, except to send him into town to run errands down at the shops.

Vaan is an interesting case. I don't mind him because the game's story is from his perspective even if he's not driving it. Much like To Kill a Mocking Bird where the story was in Scout's eyes while the story doesn't revolve around them. But did he really have to be the face of FFXII?

The selfish part of me does not want this.  Because I didn't really like XII but I know I'll probably end up buying this at some point because I can't not have trophies from an FF game.  But most of me is happy for those who like it!

Yeah my thoughts exactly.  It has been a long time since I played it, maybe my tastes have changed and I'll love it now?
