Star Wars. It's a well paced adventure where the characters, for the most part, feel like believably real people inhabiting this strange universe. Rings feels like a hollow excuse to sloooooowwwwlllyyy explore and showcase a vast fantasy world one guy made up, where every single incident and character serves simply to show off something else he thought of, with no true narrative or emotional worth whatsoever.

LotR.
As far as the movies go, the only thing Star Wars can compete in is the soundtrack. I like the "idea" of SW but I don't think that the movies are the best representation of that idea.
...I'm assuming you are referring to the movies.

I think it's cruel that you should force us to make that choice.

Star Wars. I prefer fantasy/medieval literature, but sci-fi films.

I want to share my pain :p
And I'm talking about the entire mythos, movies and books.

If you're referring to all materials, it's probably closer but still LotR/Middle-earth, for me.

I know how they work
If we're talking everything, then LotR. None of the Expanded Universe novels I read came close to how much I loved The Silmarillion. I do love the Star Wars mythos, but there's just something special about the Arda mythos.

Star Wars. Easily.
(Let's ignore the prequels, as you should.)

Oh christ if we're talking
everything
then Star Wars suddenly becomes like the worst franchise ever. That EU stuff isn't fit for toilet paper.

Assuming I can ignore the prequels, Star Wars.

If we're comparing the film franchises, I picked Star Wars because it's at least an original story/world. LotR movies were good only because the source material is so good. I can imagine a better film adaptation than Peter Jackson's. The original Star Wars movies remain the definitive entries of its genre, nearly 40 years on. It was (somehow) completely original, even though it borrowed so much.
However I do think it's odd that we are comparing Star Wars and LotR. Good call though on labeling Star Wars as a fantasy epic. They are definitely more directly comparable than Star Wars / Star Trek.
Harry Potter is probably a more direct comparison to Star Wars. They're both pulp, albeit very entertaining pulp, that had massive impact on the culture. The Lord of the Rings is closer to what I would be willing to label classic literature.

I enjoyed LOtR immensely more than SW anything. I haven't watched the Hobbit Trilogy, so I don't know what the general consensus on them, but based on just the films between them, I would say that LOtR was just subjectively better.
I actually chose option 3 because my first love would be Star Trek. =P
