Haha, why do I get the odd feeling this has been carefully timed to compete with The Force Awakens?

Looks goofy but fun anyway - I loved the original because it was basically The War of the Worlds updated - the sequel now looks like they're going for a BSG feel, which I approve. Less landmark obliterating and more ridiculous old-school dogfighting and aircraft-carriersIN SPACE! shooting at each other. ;)

Honestly, though, I would be legitimately more excited for this if they'd held off on the trailer for like two weeks. Right now my brain only has room for Star Wars.

Didn't the first movie state that the invading force and mothership were their entire civilization? So that should have been it.

That being said, this does look like it could be fun. Will Smith will be sorely missed, but he was only one piece of the puzzle.
I just hope the new composers keep David Arnold's fantastic music from the original.

I was obsessed with Independence Day when I was a kid. I don't care how corny and shlocky it is, I'm hype as fuck.

And I'm willing to sacrifice Will Smith if it means Jaden Smith is nowhere near the movie.
