Anyone else planning to pick this up? I may buy a Wii U just for this game. I'm not sure if these claims about how big the world are are accurate, but holy smokes, this looks amazing.

I'm interested, but as someone who wound up dropping XC twice, I'm not sure how much I'm going to like it. I really dont' care how big the world is if it's just going to be filled with mundane quests again. XC turned into a total snooze for me once you left that first starting town. I keep hearing I just need to get to Colony 9 or whatever it is (6?)  but man...it's tough for me for some reason. You get to that big field area and suddenly it feels like you have to grind even though you grinded in the starting area and it's just distracting side quests galore.

I love mechs, but I keep hearing you don't get them until over halfway through the game in XCX.

I will probably get it, but I'm really wondering if it's a good game or just good because of the dearth of good jRPGs lately. These high touted Wii jRPG games - XC, Last Story, etc. all have been pretty mediocre to me.

Fuck Shit Stack.

I loved the first Xenoblade so I will definitely be picking this one up.
The only thing I don't like so far is the character design. I loved it in the first game but they look kind of bland in this one.

I loved Xenoblade but the music in XBC is so irritating I think I'm just going to give up on the game. I can't put up with it.

Considering that the first one had THE WORST battle voices I ever heard and ruined the game for me, I am really hesitant to scoop this up. Let me say again. They were so damn annoying. I'll have to watch some gameplay vids before I decide.

I'm enjoying it when I can.  The battle voices are fine, for the most part and I'm enjoying the music.

If it helps, Coolsetzer, you can choose the voice for your character.  I picked the soldier option, because... well...

I created my character and I thought she'd look like a soldier.

The voices are ok for me, aside from a certain type of creature which made me think my speakers were broke.

The town and battle music annoy me, I really don't care for having lyrics/hip hop chants in RPG music. The only time it worked was OWA in FF7 and other times Latin was used because.....come on...it's cool.

But I find the biggest issue with the music is you can't turn it down, so it makes the voice acting very VERY hard to hear. With the amount of options you have just for camera control you'd think there would be a volume slider.

Aside from that it's been a positive game. I haven't done much with the social side of the game but it seems neat. It's a very open and non-linear game that doesn't have a ton of hand holding. Pretty good balance but could be improved.

I haven't done a ton of stuff but I'm enjoying it so far. I'm not sure how long I'm going to enjoy just working out of one city. I wound up picking the original XBC back up on 3DS and actually am really enjoying it, and I enjoy that it has a direction to it. I always need to go someplace. So far XBCX seems more open and less focused.

Picking this up with a Wii U next year, when all of my games are finally with me on the same coast. Shit's gonna be so cash. Hype!

I'm kind of hoping I can hold off and play this game on the NX.  Rumors of NX going back to cartridges is making me lose faith on that idea though...

I got this game a few days ago but I haven't gotten to try it out yet. I'm definitely eager to check it out though.

Let's Play Chrono Trigger
Let's Play The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
Let's Play Final Fantasy VI

I'm about 15 hours in (I just put the game on mute whenever I go into NLA to avoid the annoying music now) and I just don't like the characters or story. I may continue playing for the gameplay which is pretty fun.

The creators admitted they half assed the story in favor of making it HD, open world, and adding a lot of quests: http://www.gamereactor.eu/articles/368023/Tetsuya+Takahashi+Talks+Xenoblade+Chronicles+X/

Here there's a custom avatar instead of a preset character (as with Shulk in Xenoblade Chronicles). How did this change the scriptwriting and narrative processes? And how did you make sure the main character and supporting cast had lots of personality?
In RPG development, the sections that cost the most are the cut scenes and events in the main story. Since this is Monolith Soft's first high-definition open world title, we decided to focus less on these and instead shift our resources into improving the quality of the gameplay - which is most important - especially the "hack and slash" combat. This is the reason that we decided to make the player's character an avatar without a real personality. In exchange, we focused on designing lots of quests, and added a lot of supporting characters related to these. Many people in the development team were involved with these supporting characters, and I think we have been able to give them all strong, distinct personalities.

Just a tip to anyone not sure. If you can play jRPGs for gamepay, you'll like it. If you need a good story and characters in your JRPG, I would proceed with extreme caution. to make an analogy, the characters in XB1 vs 2 are like the characters in Dragon Quest 8 vs 9.

I should clarify on the gameplay. The world is fun and great battle system but the game is not designed user friendly. The game forces 3 characters in 90% of story missions, so you only get to control who your fourth party member is for the vast majority of story missions. if I want to change my party i have to teleport back to town and find the characters I want. This game is full of unbelievable tedium..a certain amount of sidequests are required in order to meet requirements to advance the story. Right noe i'm on s break because i want to continue th story but dont feel like doing sidequests to meet requirements, i'm hoping im in the mood after new years.

Why would I play a JRPG with a shitty story and bad characters? That's basically the glue that holds everything together. If you take the story/characters out of FFVI, I wouldn't like it very much for christ's sake. I actually can't think of a single JRPG whose gameplay is so good that a bad story and characters could be forgiven.

That's pretty disappointing considering how beautiful the game looks. That was the real draw. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but my excitement level is substantially lower after reading Spidey's post.

At this point I just can't bring myself to care enough about it to play it. It started off strong, but I'd rather just play Rise of the Tomb Raider or Battlefront or go back to Halo 5 or start SWKOTOR2 instead.
