I think part of the problem is that Show Cersei, much as I love her, just isn't that awful.  Like she's not a good person, no, but by this point in the books she's done so, so much worse--mostly thanks to Qyburn, who has also been neutered a little for the show--

I mean, this isn't the point I'm trying to make, but by this point in the books we know Qyburn has done some pretty fucked up experiments on people down in his lab, and this leads to Robert Strong, where on the show we see him doing experiments on the Mountain and.. a rat, I think?  And these people that Book Qyburn has fucked up?  Mostly he gets them from Cersei.

So anyways the point I'm making is--Show Cersei is bad, but not that bad, and Lena Hedley is absolutely amazing at basically all times as her, and Nikolaj Coster Where's Waldo is just outstanding as Jaime, and the two of them are outstanding together--it's just a shame that the price we pay for that is Jaime's arc in the books, because it's probably one of the strongest arcs, at least in my opinion.

I mean GRRM takes a character who we meet as an attempted-child-murdering, Stark-soldier-killing, sister fucking, king slaying, asshole, and he puts him on a path to redemption and it works.  And--

...shit.  I just realized, Character Does Great Harm to Children, Is Later Redeemed is a pretty common theme in ASOIAF.  Jaime and Bran.  Sandor and Micah.  Theon and the miller's boys.  Theon really got the short end of that stick, damn.

Anyways--I ramble in the morning--there's a line of development from
[Throws Bran off the tower]-------------------->[Threatens to launch a baby out of a trebuchet]
Where the first happens, and you're shocked and appalled, and Jaime is just the worst--
But when the second happens, and you the reader think "Yeah but he probably wouldn't actually do it."

And we're not really getting any of that, which is frustrating.

Most of the show's changes that were either positive or at least made sense were in the early seasons. Like Arya and Tywin at Harrenhal was awesome, for example, easily a highlight of Season 2.

It's Season 4, and then ESPECIALLY Season 5, when most of D&D's changes went completely stupid.

I will go to my grave praising the scene a few seasons back where Brienne* runs into the Hound and Arya and everything goes to shit as one of the show's finest moments.  In a span of minutes I went from "what the fuck is this shit this isn't supposed to happen" to "OH MY GOD THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE".

(*Brienne's magical Stark-finding GPS powers are a TV convenience I'm willing to just roll with.)

When your tiny, illegible props provide more character development and plot-hole repair than your actual, visible show:

Omfg. This episode had a nice jaw dropper right in the middle.

Overall, quite enjoyed this one.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
There was a small part of me that thought it wouldn't work.

Yeah, you know you're watching GoT when

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
you're actively relieved they didn't just show Ramsay dashing the baby against a rock after Fat Walda gave it to him.

"Please don't let this be as bad as I'm expecting it to be--
Nope, it's awful in its own awful way, thanks, HBO."

That ending:

I will disappointed if his first words aren't "...is this hell?"

Also,

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
credit to the showrunners for not drawing out the inevitable at least

Truth.

So I guess Robert Strong is just wandering around listenign for people to shit-talk Cersei?  Or someone felt it important enough to inform... the queen?  That some random dude is shit-talking her in a bar?  So she deployed her primary, and hilariously OP, bodyguard to...  Murder him in a pretty awesome way?

I mean if every [Random Shit-Talker In a Bar] is gonna get Mountain'd, he's gonna be pretty fucking busy, I think.

ALSO

Haven't watched the last 15 mins yet (husband came home and he'll want to watch it all later so had to stop).  But got the ending spoiled for me.  Not like I wasn't expecting it anyway.

But wow - that thing that happened in the middle...yikes.

FAT WALDA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

They're really getting their ducks in line for the finale seasons.  Subplots are getting wrapped up at a ridiculous pace.

(Whoops this was meant to auto-add to my previous post and now I can't delete it oh well.)

I'm not sure what's going to be better: the R + L = J reveal, or the subsequent mass suicide of purist book readers.

No, what will be best, is when the show confirms it

but Martin never does.

Yikes and away!

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Rooooooooooooooose =((((

That was honestly the biggest shocker for me. I figured Snow was returning tonight - dragging that out any longer would have been really painful. I was a little nervous though that it'd be at the expense of Ghost or someone else. I'm also very curious to see what this "costs" Jon Snow and if he changes in personality (ala Beric).

Balon's finally dead! 3 seasons late!  (What is dead may never die)  Curious to see what the show does with Euron. And Theon's going back to the Iron Islands? Hmmm.

I'm really happy to see Bran again. And really neat getting around the "no flashback" deal by using Bran. Bloodraven needs one less eye though.
