ROOOOOOOOOSE
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Roose:  "If you act like a mad dog, you'll be treated like a mad dog."
Mad Dog:  "Okay, dad, whatever you say."
Roose:  "By the way, your stepmother just had a baby--it's a boy, so technically I don't need you anymore, a fact I've reminded you of multiple times in the past!"
Mad Dog:  "Congratulations, pops, give me a totally loving hug, I couldn't possibly betra--MAD DOG, MOTHERFUCKER."
[STAB.]
Roose:  "Now, just wait a second--I'm supposed to be the smart Bolton."
[DIES.]
ROOSE BOLTON:  MURDERED BY THE SCRIPT.

I'd hope that he comes back as an ice zombie to murder Ramsay, once the real war inevitably begins, but then we'd miss out on Shitlord Bolton getting ABSOLUTELY FUCKING WRECKED by Brienne of Tarth, Patron Badass of Women's Justice.

Rhaegar
World Warrior 21007

So after nearly deciding to skip out entirely on Season 6, I decided to catch up with the first two episodes and tonight's. Since, you know, I was going to read the spoilers and shake my head anyway. So might as well.

Tower of Joy
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
That's it? Really? No Howland Reed greenseer-ing it up in some way or something awesome? Just a backstab for MASSIVE DAMAGE on the Sword of the Morning himself? Weeeeeeeeeeaksauuuuuuuuuce.

On the other hand, Castle Black
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
DIE OLLY YOU FUCKING CREEPY BASTARD! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR YOUR CREEPY ASS STARING REPLACING THE ACTUAL GOOD AND POLITICALLY MOTIVATED REASONS FOR JON GETTING STABBED IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU FUCK.

Winterfell
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Poor Shaggydog. :*( Also, the Ramsay/North storyline is getting all sorts of stupid. Also way to introduce the Smalljon out of nowhere, with no setup, as a Bolton ally. At least making Harrion Karstark join up with the Boltons is understandable, if not utterly predictable.

Winterfell:
"Man, we've gone a whole episode without a trip to the Ramsay Bolton House Of Pointless Horrors--oh god damn it!"
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
I would feel worse, maybe angry, about Shaggydog being unceremoniously killed off-screen if the show's version of the direwolves were anything other than just big dogs.  Other than Ghost, who frequently just vanishes, and Summer, who gets a pass because Bran is a superwarg.... I don't remember the show ever hinting at Robb's possible warging, or at least deep connection, with his (in the books it's hinted at when people recount the battles they're in), and Nymeria is just gone with, again, no real indication of warg abilities for Arya.  I mean book Rickon is probably, by this point, fucking feral because of his connection with Shaggydog, but... show Rickon just seems bummed that he's dead?

So... Shaggydog being dead is just sorta "oh well".

Also this plot is fucking stupid and I can't wait for John, the wildings, and Brienne to come down on Ramsay's head like a greataxe.

Tower!  Of!  JOOOOOY!
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Consider my cock sufficiently blocked, HBO, you fucks.

I argued with my brother the other day that inclusion of any scene here is basically tantamount to confirming R+L=J. Because otherwise there's basically no point in this little plot diversion?  I mean what else could Bran possibly learn here, besides his half-brother's real identity?  I mean... he could be learning that maybe his dadsn't as badass as he thought, and maybe Howland Reed (Christ what a waste) is less than honorable, but... so fucking what?  None of that shit is important in the slightest.  The showrunners are getting their houses in order for the endgame, and character development for a character who died in season one doesn't fucking matter.

So obviously Bran is going back in the season finale, to find out what the Raven doesn't want him to see, which is obviously that Jon is Lyanna's kid, and she probably had him willingly, which would completely blow Bran's mind but also follow the theme that maybe Ned wasn't ever telling the whole truth about what happened, just like he wasn't about the fight with the Sword of the Morning--all of which would be a revelation for Bran.  So I guess my whole problem here is the whole Jon Snow thing all over again--we know what's coming, it's not even a little bit subtle, so why bother with the misdirection for misdirection's sake? So you have a big reveal in your finale?  That's dumb.

Arthur Dayne was badass, but, honestly, dual-wielding is so cheesy.

Dorne:
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
So Ellaria apparently successfully took over, I guess.  *holds up hands, shrugs*

Arya and, uh, King's Landing--it's a long shot, but bear with me:
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Point the First:
The Waif pushed her to use a very specific wording regarding the state of the Hound the last time we saw him.  She says he's dead, but the Waif punishes her, until she says she "left him for dead".

Point the Second:
Cersei wants a trial by combat with the Mountain as her champion.  His opponent would have to be a champion from the Faith Militant.

Point the Third:
In the books, the Hound is nearly-confirmed living as a gravedigger on an island at a monastary.

Prediction:
The show has a history of sort of using the source material but getting it "wrong" in a good or bad way.  So in this case, I think it's going to take the bare essence of the Hound being at a monastary of the Faith... and twist it just enough that the Faith, in a frankly pretty good twist, have The Hound as their champion in the trial.  Thus, Clegane Bowl.

Prediction:
The Hound will win.  The Faith Militant will attempt to imprison not just Cersei, but Jaime and, more importantly, King Tommen, confirmed at this point as a product of incest, and a false king.  This will lead to open fighting between the Lannisters and the Faith.  I seriously doubt Tommen will survive the season.  King's Landing will be in disarray... and Winter is coming.

They only have so many episodes left before all this poltical infighting becomes secondary to the larger, more world-ending conflict with the Others.

reido - as far as R+L=J is concerned...a whole lot of people watch this show.  A very small percentage of them are aware of that theory.  So it will come as a shock to a big portion of the audience who don't put a lot of thought into this show.

Yikes and away!

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
I'm of the opinion the Smalljon killed just a large wolf and not Shaggydog - as that head seemed entirely too small to be a direwolf, and not like Ramsay could tell the difference. I'm kinda hoping this is a coup from the inside on part of the Umbers to put Rickon as Warden of the North/Lord of Winterfell. The Umbers will take the role of the Manderlys from the books. At least I'm really HOPING this is the scenario. I'm fucking exhausted of Ramsay getting everything right.

I think once waaaay back in season 2 did the show try and show that the other kids warg in this scene here: https://youtu.be/FnLUrGt2114?t=97 But it really didn't come off well to non readers, and it seems the show has since said, "fuck it" and just stuck to Bran warging. I wanted Arya to warg into a cat too so she could see before she got her eyes back =(

I'm a bit miffed the show still hasn't address Davos and Mel's conflict over burning Shireen and the fact that Stannis is dead. They just jumped immediately to the ressurection plot without any consequences of the previous battle, meh. They're even acting like friends, what the fuck.

I will say, I'm enjoying Kit Harington's performance (all episode and a half of it spent not dead) and his scenes I'm actually looking forward to seeing. Dany's starting to sound rather one-note - prediction there Drogon will come save her ass and whee back to Meereen she goes.

Did anyone else think Qyburn was gonna poison the kids? That was my first thought.

I kept my expectations low for the Tower of Joy, and glad I did. Although very well choreographed.

I've come to terms/acceptance that the rest of the show is not going to have anywhere near the nuance nor grace the first couple seaons/the books have, so I'm just trying to roll with the crap parts and enjoy what IS good. Although already getting tired of the, "What major character(s) can we kill this episode?" trope that basically started with last season and has not let up this season.

It's just sad seeing a world that's so carefully thought out being given the giant illogical nature of Hollywood. It really kills some of the magic for me. All the more reason I'm clamoring for the book to finally come out.

1. I was really hoping we were going to see Arya warg into a cat.  That was probably my favorite part of her time as the blind girl in Dance with Dragons.  I only had a glimmer of hope though, since the show has entirely omitted her dreams where she wargs into Nymeria.

2. I don't think Davos knows exactly what happened.  He probably assumes that Stannis, Shireen and everyone else were killed by the Boltons.

3. That's EXACTLY what I thought Qyburn was doing.  I was cringing as those kids were eating the plums.

I've come to the realization that I truly don't care about the Essos stories.  Dany in Vaes Dothrak, Tyrion and co. in Meereen, and Arya in Braavos.  None of it interests me at all.  I was more interested in Sam and Gilly, even while living in fear that the pink mast was going to make an appearance.

Really, the stories I'm invested in are the North characters (Jon/Davos/Melly; Sansa/Brienne/Pod; Northern intrigue at Winterfell), the Ironborn stuff specifically related to Theon and Yara, and the insanity going down in King's Landing.  Everything else could be cut and I wouldn't give a damn.  I'd actively cheer in Dorne's case.

Thinking further on this...
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Sadly I think Rickon's entire purpose on the show at this point is to give people--Jon and his Wildlings, Sansa and her knight (and her knight's squire) a reason to actually go to Winterfell.  With Sansa having escaped, I can't really see Jon doing anything about the castle on its own, or being able to convince anyone (again, the Wildlings) to do anything about it, because even if his watch has ended he's not really a Stark, and Winterfell is the Stark seat...

... but even as a Snow, he's still Rickon's brother.  I can't imagine he'd just let Ramsay keep him.  You could remove Sansa from this equation completely and he'd still rally the Wildlings to go save his kid brother.

But you can't remove Sansa.  She's gotta start wearing that house sigil eventually, and when better than when gathering forces to take back her family's home?  I suspect she'll unify some Northern houses (DEAR HBO GIVE ME THE MORMONTS AND DON'T PUT A DUDE AT THE HEAD OF THEIR HOUSE), and Jon will bring the Wildlings, and together they'll take Winterfell back.

After all, like the King's Landing plot, the Ramsay stuff is rapidly approaching its shelf date, as the large-scale conflict looms closer and closer.

I like that much more than what I've read some people think:

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
That Rickon's back to be kill off easily by Ramsay, so that Jon Snow will be legitimized and hold Winterfell as Jon Stark after he does take the castle. Everyone still seems to forget Sansa in that equation as well though, and that'd be pretty fucking irritating from a narrative perspective to do that.

I really hope the preview next week featuring Sansa isn't another case of, "LOL Stark reunion just missed again!" Maybe this will the show's version of the pink letter? Sansa and Jon get notice that Rickon's still alive, and storm Winterfell? Sansa also knows Bran still lives, or rather, didn't die when Theon torched the castle, so I wonder what she'd say to Jon about it? There's a lot of things to cover here.

It still annoys me, because I feel like Davos would still have questions. "What happened? How did it happen? How were they killed? Why didn't you do anything about it? Weren't you loyal to our king?" etc. For a man so devoted to a cause, it just felt really lame not to address it at all. But I suppose that's me.

Rescue... avenge... same end result, sadly.

You can't legitimize someone who's not really a bastard, either.
