This is surreal...

I apologize if this post makes no sense, but I assure you it is an introduction of sorts.

Let's rewind back to 1999, Final Fantasy VIII has just been released and looking to discuss more about the game as well as others in the series I turn to the world wide web. Quickly I came across FFonline.com and started posting on the forums over the years with a few various names. You'll have to forgive me as I forgot all of them except one, Broken_Boomerang. I recall using an Irvine gif as an avatar, you know the one where he shoots a chocobo? Ah good times. Eventually I was messaged from someone on another FF forum and ended up posting there for a time as well, I believe it was FFAlpha.

Regardless it's now 2016, I'm an old man, and my curious nature got the better of me as I decided to type in the address of old websites I used to visit. Of Course as this post proves FFonline.com was one of them. Though I see in the upper left corner it says FF Society, I'm not sure of the story there, but some digging could always find me the answer unless someone wants to spoon feed this grandpa.

As per my title finding these forums and the website still existing in some form is rather surreal. In fact I wonder if once I go to bed and get up in the morning if this truly will be just a dream. Sadly aside from this story I don't have much proof that I really posted back then. I recall the owner was DH for DarkHorse or something of the like? I remember there was someone who used an avatar of Shadow from FFVI that posted a lot as well. During a few months I remember people annoyed at all the Sephiroth fanboyism and switched to Kuja avatars to promote what was in their opinion a better villain.

Oh I do know that the Final Fantasy VIII edits started here, if anyone is familiar with those. The two I remember most was Rinoa saying "Squall I'm dying" with him replying "Whatever" the other was The Cafeteria lady saying there were all out of cherry pepsi, to which Squall says "Rinoa get my gun".

I'm sure the validty of me being truly from "the long long ago" as the kids in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome would say is particularly pointless, but I digress. It really is interesting to see this place still around in some capacity, and I'm genuinely curious as to how active the forums are these days. I know video game forums have become endangered.

Welcome back. As Id82 said - most of anyone left around here is an old timer from some point "back in the day". I joined just after FFVIII came out.

The reason the banner references FF Society is because a while ago DH had given control of the FFO domain over to a Mod to keep things up, but that Mod eventually disappeared and control of the domain was lost and FF Society was started and the forum moved over to there. Eventually DH was able to get the FFO domain back and everything came back over here.

The forum isn't the most active anymore but there's literally tens of us still here lurking and commenting from time to time.

Thank you for the warm welcome. It's intersting to see other people from the old era still around or coming back, again I don't remember any names save one, but I feel it might be best to not name drop in that regard.

That is interesting about the whole FFSociety thing, and that's cool that DH was able to get it back.

I understand the forums not being too active, most forums these days usually are with the exception of a few.

I joined back in 2001, and was active until about 2005. I just lurk here from time to time and check things out. Welcome back, though.

Yes, what of it?

I joined back in 2002. It was the first internet site I joined. I'm approaching my 15th year of being "lime'd for truth." Man, that makes me feel old... I actually got trolled out of another board for it.... *laughs* It's good I'm liked here. I <3 you guys.

Coolsetzer (I agree, Setzer is cool), and Plumbum

Thank you for the replies. It is really cool to see that there are more posters from those days. So far even with my few posts I've lurked about, and while I plan to stay away from some boards (politics) I like that so far everything is very relaxed and civil. This is what I miss about the old forum days; just casual gaming discussion.

To add to the FFSociety story, the migration began when FFO was attacked in some way/shape/form.  The mod in question was not around as noted above and he had the keys to the kingdon so to speak, so there was nothing to do.  Thankfully, DH had been working on FFSociety for awhile as he was experimenting with a new board and thus most everyone still around was able to escape over to FFSociety.

Welcome back.

Wowza palowza! I started posting on ffonline more than 10 years ago and came back looking for tips for while I'm replaying FFX. So many of the names I see flash me back to General Chat discussions with other folks like razieldumas, Rain, and Mole. I'm glad to see the community still kicking!

Literally tens huh?  Well, there's literally tens of members at SG who post sometimes as well, but we have a core group of somewhere around 6-8 members who post fairly frequently.  About 5 of us post almost daily.

How could people think Kuja is a better villain?  He's actually one of the weakest points in FF9.  It was okay the first time through, but on an replay his cackling about whose eidolon is the best eidolon is such infantile garbage, it's really cringeworthy.

Kuja is the best villain on that whole space ship after the better villain on the space ship dies and if you didn't bring Steiner because Steiner is a better villain than Kuja.
