It actually feels like a Final Fantasy. BTW I'll also say the combat feels fantastic once you master it, this is what I would like a departure from turn based to be like. (holy shit @ all the animations being able to be displayed at once on screen!) Be a kid again, pretend it's the first game you've played. It really blossoms when you stop comparing it to everything else.

I was also worried about the scores before playing but I've come to realize they are judging it based on two things: A) That the game is incomplete without the movie and anime backstories and B) They are reviewing it from a gamers perspective and not a FF fan's perspective. Not to say a fan is going to let shit slide either, because I think everything since Hironobu Sakaguchi left square they have produce lackluster titles. Only exception in the last fifteen years has been their online efforts and the gameplay from FFXII. All that being said, as far as I am in the game so far... this is everything I've wanted a FF to be. The world has captured me, I'm so content with doing sidequests because I'm that into the gameplay. Only GTA V has been fun enough for me to grind through sidequest after sidequest. The world reminds me of FFVII, VIII, XII, and XI at times. I can't believe I'll be able to fly around it in an airship! Depending on where the story takes me and how much the world opens up and how much there is to do after everything is said and done... it might be one of my favorite titles. 10, 12, and 13 I knew very early on what I felt about the games. With 15 I feel nostalgic as fuck and attached to the characters. Promto so far has gotten the most backstory and depth but I'm sure there's going to be some depth for each of the friends. The Hulk said: Have to admit, so far, the more I play, the more I dislike it. The battle system doesn't get any better and the story is god awful. It's also insultingly unpolished for something in development so long.
Testament said: You could say that about any game, though. =P Seriously, it seems that the majority are enjoying it, which is good. I wasn't impressed by either demo, but I will gladly pick it up for $20.
