Starting Final Fantasy IX on Android. It literally blows my mind that a full blown big time console release from my freshman year in college is now available to play on my phone. I've been wanting to replay this game for a while so I will take advantage of my limitations to mobile to do some replays I've been putting off.

I'm just really hoping for a console port of this like FFVII.  I love IX, but I think I've only played it all the way through a couple of times.

Just finished Uncharted 4.  General Uncharted fare - want to just get through the gameplay sections to get to the story!  Now undecided on whether to start Last Guardian, World of Final Fantasy, or go back to FFXV (which I've been holding off on hoping for them to release their improvement-update things).

So no one is playing Nioh?
I just finished The Banner Saga, I had to replay it before I could finish it because I never used one of the characters required on the last battle and because I missused my renown. Got the OST, not sure I'll get the following game.
And now I'm anxiously waiting for Horizon Zero Dawn.

I'm playing Nioh, Mav. I'm 3 bosses down (if you count the tutorial boss) and so far feel like it is a very refereshing take on the Dark Souls/Bloodborne genre.

Combat is much more fluid and engaging than in those games. It's fun getting more equipment and loot. The submissions so far let you feel like you're accomplishing something without always having to fight a boss at the end. I would almost consider the game somewhat easier than DS/BB. Items are extremely helpful (to the point of even cheesing some of the bosses) and can be plentiful. Getting a "super" attack that charges up can be very helpful in getting out of tricky situations. The combat stances and layers upon layers of abilities can make the game seem overwhelming at first, but become second nature quickly.

It's different enough that I would almost say it feels nothing like Dark Souls/Bloodborne......but it does. Like It really can't replace either game for fans of those. It's too different. But to the casual fan it might.

The story is just okay. There is nothing deep and you don't really feel like you're discovering it like DS/BB.

There is no large connected world like DS/BB, but the stages all feel distinct and different.

And while DS/BB never felt "unfair", I will admit that Nioh sometimes does - like the enemies may not be following al lthe same rules you need to. The last boss I fought seemed to have infinite stamina and could just keep moving and attacking over and over, forcing you to fight it the game wants you too instead of trying to develop your own strategy. DS/BB has a bit of this "puzzleness" to it as well but it sometimes feels like difficulty is inflated just because the game is expecting you to find an overpowered strategy.

Unlike DS/BB which can be beaten at level 1 with the minimum of equipment for those who really want to try, Nioh forces you to continually try to use better equipment and level up to gain an advantage. If you don't, you just won't do enough damage. And while DS/BB never gated your leveling/abililties - Nioh does. And it's obviously because if you could just grind and get access to some of the spells/techniques early on it would just be game breaking.

In the end though, you just have to keep persisting and "get good" much like DS/BB in order to proceed. Already enemies that seem almost mini-boss like in the first level are now commonplace in the 3rd and 4th story missions and while tactics stay the same, fall a bit easier due to your improved abilities and items.

Other than Nioh, I'm also looking forward to Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier: Automata, and I will also pickup Yakuza 0 soon. Man what a year for PS4 in just these few months. I'll also be getting For Honor soon for Xbox one.

It seemed easier than DS to me when I watched a video of a guy beating a boss in a few dodge/get behind/strike moves, but who knows.
DS intrigues me so much, but even with Zoph's great help, it over whelmed me, still, I love a good old samurai style game and I really, really want it!
I guess, I'll wait until it's cheaper.
And now I started a new Witcher 2 run, because I realized that when I previously played it, I hadn't read the books yet, already, I get stuff I didn't before.

If you're on the fence, I would definitely wait for a price drop.

The first boss in the tutorial mission is quite easy, unlike Souls games, and I beat him first try no problem (it takes places on top of a castle battlement, if that's what you've seen). I would say it almost made me overconfident about my abilities (and I'm not very good at Dark Souls or Bloodborne). Although that overconfidence might just be what has helped me stick through the game so far.

DS is a much more patient came IMO. You have to be patient, on guard, block, study every enemy movement because even the weakest enemies can take half your health in a hit on occasion. Bloodborne forces your hand a bit more as you can't block and rewards you with health recovery for attacking after you've taken a hit - it makes it much more about movement and dodging and attacking - but I still consider patience as a requirement and learning each enemy a must.

Nioh takes Bloodborne up a notch. You can be very aggressive - instead of reflling health you instead have a mechanic to restore stamina. Most normal level enemies (at least at first) don't really have the potential to kill you as long as you are taking them one at a time. Not until you get to the larger enemies in a level do you start to feel that dread of  possible death that Dark Souls can cause. You still have to do your diligence and try to properly dodge/block/heal on the smaller enemies to make sure you're not put into a vulernable position later - but I find it much less stressful than the souls games.

If you like samurai style games, I do think this feels a bit like Onimusha.

Yep, I'll wait.
I like the aggresive approach, maybe that's one of the things that bothered me about DS, soo much patience and blocking and half circling to the right and to the left and again with each enemy only to be surprised by some thing (curse those things that fall from the ceiling!) and then, back to the last bonfire and do all that aall over again, the blocking, the half circling, uugh...
Thanks, love, you cleared a few doubts I had :)

And I have to say, The Witcher 3 has ruined even The Witcher 2, it seems so clunky and the graphics so murky now, and that map...
The music still rocks though.

Finished The Witcher 3 a few weeks back.  Haven't really played anything since.  Waiting for Horizon tomorrow.  Have to somehow find a way to beat Horizon before Friday (Switch/Zelda).  It's going to be a fun week!

I played the demo and I felt like I was button mashing (in fact, I was button mashing) and I couldn't even tell when the fight was over, let alone whether I was winning or losing.

Just went thorugh Resident Evil VII, which is fantastic.
Have Horizon Zero Dawn arriving later today.  Hopefully I can get it wrapped up in three weeks before Andromeda arrives and completely takes over my free time.

I'm gonna buy Horizon today.  I've been hearing great things, and it'll be forever before I can get it cheaper than the Amazon 20% off, so might as well!

Horizon is ridiculously beautiful.  Gameplay is very, very fun.  The most surprising thing has been the narrative.  Really enjoying it as well as the world buidling.

I got Horizon: Zero Dawn as well.
It is certainly beautiful, one of those games that I invite my husband to look at so he can marvel at the graphics.
Last night I was hunting one of those "horses" and I ws able to shoot it only once to begin with and he went on to spark and twitch like a faulty machine, that was neat, also I love, love, love the idea that I might find more ruins such as the one in the beginning.
And I don't know why people think Aloy is ugly? she is very pretty and kinda looks like what teenager girls looked like in the 80's: strong eyebrows, big hair, little (or no) make-up and a fuller face, since we were allowed to be meatier then.
