People always said FFXIII is not a bad game it's just a bad "final fantasy" game. I really don't understand that rationale because a bad game is a bad game, and a good game is a good game period.

As for FFXV though I think it has enough elements to consider this an FF game.

As for the exploration parth, though, I think it's handled pretty well but I think two things were lacking here and which are pretty big omissions consiering how this game likes to focus on the open world exploration element.

The first being that the world itself is pretty lacking in scope and variety. As beautifull some of the scenic views are the world really isn't that varied and does get stale at times.

The second is the game has no lore, part of the charm of an open world game is understanding the lore and environment of the game's world. The developers really forgot to do some world buildig in this game and sometimes it detatches you from the world you are exploring as a result. Simple things like how come there's a character with a steroy-typical New York Italian accent, while other talk normally, or whats the reason why
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
one city's power plant is only ran by women
,  what are the origns of the hunters, or how come there is a road network  whens there's demons lurking, or what's the relationship between Lucis and Insomia between the people and such?

Im not sure who said that about FF13 but it certainly wasnt me. Once I heard the battle system is game over if the main character dies and that the game doesnt have any towns, Id have even tried the game if it was developed by someone else with a different names. FF13 gets whatever success it got because it got the FF title. Imagine if Lost Oddyssey was called Final Fantasy 13 how much success it would have gotten.

I agree with you on the lore of FF15. It just ruins it for me that Noctis is clearly a Japanese dude and yet his loyal subjects are all Southerners. WTF? If youre going for realism lets keep it somewhat realistic. The people at hammerhead, 2 miles from Noctis Kingdom, should at least have the same accent as the prince and king. The games world is worse than Final Fantasy 13 to me. At least that game was consistent about the world. The main reason I like this game so much better is because its just way more fun to play. But the world to me is the weakest aspect of FF15 for just the reasons you stated.

After having played Xenoblade 1 and 2 this world lacks total imagination. The first area is a copy of Route 66 and the 2nd area looks like it was taken out of Seqouyah national park. Every area so far in the entire game looks like it was modeled after photographs of US national parks. Theres nothing like Eryt sea with incredible imagination in this game. It lacks both fantasy and the reality elements doesnt make sense (as I mentioned above) either.

I actually dont mind the story. It does the job for me.

The battle system will end up being my favorite in the series. I still prefer the job system but thats an abilities system. I just prefer this fun system to ATB.

Motsy: Sounds like a case that we just value different things in games.

lol no it is very much on the road to recovery.

also, when did Square openly admit it was an unfinished product?
When they said they would be adding a bunch of story scenes to the game in the future to literally make sense of unexplained stuff.  Although their admission is unncessary for anyone who has played the game, as it is pretty blatantly not a complete product.

They are also adding new game plus in the next patch. I can hardly justify calling a game without new game plus finished. Its clear they intended to have that feature in the game but plain didnt have time to add it in and figured as long as they add it in before most people beat it they would be fine. Which is true but just proof the game was rushed out.

OK. So a couple things are pissing me off.

Sparkles on the ground. Why not chests? One of the coolest things in Dragon Quest VII (2 gens ago) was exploring the open forest and finding a chest. I could forgive it in Type-0, because that was a PSP game.

The map isn't as open as it may seem, and gives no indication of where you can't go. Seems many quests they want you to approach from a certain way (like pilgrimage - only accessible from the road). But I'll see a nearby quest marker and try to run to it only to have to run halfway around the map.

The big one. When I first got this game I wanted to try playing without looking things up. So I go to sell stuff. There's a treasures tab, and all the descriptions say like "should sell for a good price." For decades now (decade?) that has been RPG shorthand to mean this item is just for selling. I know I sold some coins. Maybe rare ones. No clue.

But despite the gripes, starting to get into it more. I'm in chapt 3, and almost ready to use the wyvern hunt to level up. I love being overleveled in rpgs, so that will increase my enjoyment.

Adding further cut scenes won't make the game itself any more complete; it'll only serve to better flesh out the story (which, so we're clear, I agree is very much needed). But you can start a game of Final Fantasy XV RIGHT NOW, and play it through to completion. You can easily spend over 100 hours exploring Lucis, doing hunts, sidequests, or just wandering around.

Once you complete the main story, you unlock a wealth of amazing post-game content and dungeons that will surely keep you busy for more hours to come. The content is in there. Square could wipe their hands of this game and move onto something else, and you'd still have a complete gameplay experience. Most of the items talked about for future DLC is exactly the kind of "enhancements" they used to save for their JP-exclusive International versions.

Yup, this is genuinely frustrating, and I hope is patched in a future update. A good rule of thumb is to hold onto at least 1 of every treasure, in case you later find it's needed for crafting -- especially if it sells for upwards of 1000 gils at shops. Keep Metal Scraps and Rusted Bits for Cid's weapon upgrades.

Well yeah now I'm not selling anything unless I have a ton. And gonna use the Wyvern hunt for money anyway.

The coins are used in Magic Recipes to form very very powerful EXP boost magic. See youtube for 3mil exp in 30 minutes. It's really just a way to powerlevel very rapidly.

The side quests in this game are tedious and repetitive.

I prefer the older method of only having maybe a handfull of side quests but having them be more elaborate and potentially affecting the main storyline.

The main character of the game(outside of fishing ones)continously laments on how fucking stupid most of these little tasks are.

So I'm liking the game more now , but there are still major flaws in the game. I think I'll end up liking it more than FF12, FF13, FF1, 2, and 3 but below all the others.  I just really like the battle, skills, and ascension systems. What I dont like is the nighttime schedule starting at 4pm and ending at 9am and the massive amounts of enemy drops.  Its also stupid and pointless that you have to rent the chocobo, it costs CHUMP change, why can't I just own my own chocobo instead of the repetitive task of going to the counter to buy it? The 3 minute load times for fast travel aren't fun either.  Also I'm getting sick of listening to the same dialogue over and over and over... also, wish I could skip cutscene to refuel the car or skip the cutscene when I'm entering or exiting the car. It would also be nice to have a way to cycle more magic in one slot, instead of goign into the menu. I get flashbacks of Vagrant Story's over use of menus.

I like the dungeons atmosphere. The world also improved after the first few areas, the areas got way more interesting.  The story also makes way more sense after I watched Kingslaive. That movie is a MUST SEE if you want to have any idea what's going on in FF15 IMO. Also, fishing is the best FF minigame i've seen since the ones in FF9.

The game could be really good if not all theses minor design decisions that end up being major gameplay flaws.

The fact that it's usally silent on the world map is a fucking dealbreaker for me. Your only choice is to listen to old FF music on the MP3 player. Lame. also why can't I listen to FF15 music in the car? What the heck man, the soundtrack is amazing and it was the perfect chance to listen to some of the epic themes of the game which you rarely get to hear...and nope, you can listen to other FF music but not that of the game itself. lol.

Yeah, the chocobo rental and the paying for fuel are both so pointless.  Just filler to stretch out the total gameplay time.

So I finished up the platinum and every sidequest besides the hunts (Only got to hunt level 4, did all the "cool" hunts, seems repetitive to do any more) and I can give my final impression of the game.

I liked it, but didn't love it. It was a blast to play, and I liked the main party, and the villian, but the world and story fell flat. There was just too much repetition tacked into the game, and very poor music direction. The OST is amazing, but I spent maybe 90% listening to tracks I didn't lilke (all the town themes) and 10% of the game not hearing tracks I love (main overworld theme which never plays in the overworld, the Altissia theme, the opening credits theme, the summon music, etc) This is my main complaint to the game, in addition to the painfully long loading screens and need to go into a cumbersome menu instead of offering more quick change slots.  It's a pity that such small design choices ruined my experience, but it is what it is.

Overall, my new FF order is

FF9
FF6
FF10
FF7
FF8
Tactics
FF5
FF15
FF12
FF4
FF3
FF1
FF2
giant gaping gap
FF13

Not soon enough! I've completed everything so far. I'm tempted to run through the story again.

Um we got a date for the updates to chapter 13.  It was sometime in March?  I think late March?  I had been deciding whether to come back to this game or play something else, and I know that made my decision easy to keep waiting.
