I Am Pure Energy

It's finally here people. First new Zelda since 2012. Currently 98% on metacritic.

I'll be playing on WiiU for now because I can't spend $500 on one game. I'll probably get a switch later this year when there are more games and an online library.

Maybe Ocarina of Time has finally been topped. Regardless, I'm looking forward to many hours of gaming bliss with Breath of the Wild.

Just finished hooking up the Switch and downloading all of the updates.  About to start playing it.  No idea how I'm going to play this and Horizon at the same time.

I can see why so many people are giving it the grade that they are.  This game makes me feel like a kid playing the original Zelda again.  You can do anything right from the start.  The sense of exploration and wonder is incredible.  I'm going to spend a hundred hours in this game without furthering the plot, I bet.

My one complaint is the controls.  Jump, sprint, and crouch are not where they should be.  You can't map the controller either (hoping you can in a future patch).

I'll get this on Wii U eventually - just too many other games to play and right now with Horizon Zero Dawn already started I feel like the two would just compete against each other and I'd wind up finishing neither.

Fuck Shit Stack.

So how's the game and how's the switch? I want to get one eventually.

Holy crap who thought the breakable weapons were a good idea?

There are a couple of neat touches here and there but this is essentially just another Zelda game, do not believe any reports that this is some kind of breakout title or revolution for the series.  The review scores are mental and I can only attribute them to being bought or affection for the series.  This isn't even close to being one of the best games ever.

Game is amazing.  I don't regret buying the Switch for this at all.

I would have but we just had our first baby two days after it came out so it wasn't in the budget. I feel like I'm fully experiencing the game on WiiU, but I have to honest that this game pushes the WiiU beyond its limits technologically. It's not unplayable by any means but there are frame rate dips frequently. That bothers me less than it does some people. I'll buy a Swotch later this year and replay it on the DLC hard mode. The game is already hard so that will be a blast.

I did the island survival trial yesterday and it was beautiful.

I had an "Oh shit" moment a couple days ago. I was in Eldin region scaling a tall mountain to get to the tower so that I could get the region map. The whole time I believed I was scaling up Death Mountain.

Then I got to the top of the tower, and far in the distance towering above me, was the real Death Mountain.

This game is enormous.

I picked it up - not very far - Kakariko Village.

I like it but yet there are annoyances and I can see it being too big. I dunno. Can't really judge until I play more.

If you're not totally lost in this game by an hour or two after you leave the Great Plateau, it may not be for you. I was. It might be hard for me to go back to replayimg Zelda games in the LttP paradigm after BotW. I'm sure I will play them, but all those games are going to feel small now.

It is way too big.  Travelling between locations is boring and very repetitive.

While I disagree with that opinion, I can certainly understand where you're coming from. All I can say is that it's a matter of taste. If you enjoy getting lost in this world as I do, the long runs through the wilderness feel epic and mysterious. It reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus.
