Doesn't $50 seem way too steep for it though?

I got it for like $32? from Amazon with the preorder price guarantee. I see it's up to $49 now though....

I am enjoying it so far. The speed mode is a godsend.

I might want it someday down the line.  But 12 was way low on my FF favorites list, so I wouldn't want to pay more than $20...and that would feel like a stretch.

If you didn't really like the game, I suppose it's too much.

I think I remember reading that they made it easier, in general... or at least rebalanced it. Best part is that the chests now respawn just by zoning one zone away.  Contents are still not fixed for all chests, but the one-zone respawn helps tons.

I picked up the steelbook, but probably won't start for a few weeks. I only own 2 steelbook games and they are both FFXII...

Wait does that mean some of the chests do have a fixed reward ...i.e. just 1 possible item is given?

I got the steelbook edition for 32 thanks to Amazon's pre order price gauranteed as well, just like Amer.

I don't believe there are many that guarantee just the one item. Looking at the Estersand area treasure chart... I see there are 3 chests, out of 71, that have a guaranteed item. Further, those chests appear to be one-time only.

From the eGuide:

Perhaps the biggest change from the original FFXII to this version (and definitely the friendliest change) is a reshuffling of treasure locations and results across the entire game. All locations now have much more treasure to find (some locations have more than double the old amount of treasure chests). Treasure also tends to be more generous (for one thing, gambits are no longer in chests at all??now there??s much more ??real? treasure). And, most importantly, treasure now re-spawns by moving only one zone away??if you move past a dotted boundary and see a brief black loading/autosave screen, then return, you??ve ??zoned? and reshuffled the treasure chests. In the original game, you had to move three zones away, and you didn??t have 2x or 4x Speed Mode Multiplier to speed the hike up, either.

50 bucks is steep and I complained about it, but then I remembered that it is a pretty long game (perhaps shorter now with that speed button!) and so it's worth the expense to me.

That speed button is great for grinding, last night I did my usual grinding with skeletons, ghosts and zombies in the darkness of the Barheim Passage and I got leveled up a few times in no time flat.

But even leveled up (gotta get them licenses!) I've only died once and that was because I went after the third mark with Vaan alone and he got the 1000 needles attack, so yeah, made easier, I worry about the Pharos Subterra and other harder dungeons now, I hope they are not too easy.

Man, I wish I had the time or money to pick this up right now. Initially when FFXII came out I played a few hours then put it down for three years before finishing it. I remember hating its story, but loving the gameplay.

My perception on games and JRPG's has changed so much since I got back into gaming I really want to replay this game. I think I will like it far more than I did during an initial playthrough. I may have to pick it up sooner than later.

12 was the FF series entering  a nosedive it has yet to pull up from.  Unless this new edition has a completely overhauled cast and story, it isn't salvaging anything.

For some reason I've found myself going back through Tomb Raider on PS3.  It's an Uncharted clone which exceeds its inspiration in a couple of areas but the writing is sadly dire.

Turnabout is fair play.  Uncharted clearly drew inspiration from and improved upon Tomb Raider.  It's only natural that the new Tomb Raider games should draw from and improve upon the Uncharted formula.

Definitely and, as a consumer, I couldn't give a tinker's toss about any issues of morality when it comes to copying ideas/mechanics, I only care that I get a decent end product.  And it's decent enough that today I went out and bought the sequel for PS4 so I guess they did a good job.

I'm not quite sure I like the Zodiac System, I can't wait to be able to get that second job to open, so I can have some variety, when playing the game prior, I foloowed some very loose class guidelines for everyone, but mostly, I liked having them do a variey of things, I loved giving Penelo war hammers, for example, now, because of limitations, I had to make her a white mage and heavens knows what else will play well with that, I suppose she can still wield a hammer, I dunno, something's off.
Plus, like I said, way easier this time around.

I'm about 35 hours into XII and I really am enjoying it. I loved the PS2 version enough to beat it several times, so my concern going into the updated version was it getting stale. I feel that because the audio and visuals are so much sharper and cleaner that I have been very focused on the story and all the other details of the game, I care much more about NPCs and minor elements now.  The game looked great on PS2 so this version looks fantastic to me. I love seeing inside vendor stalls in Lowtown or taking in detailed vistas in Bhujerba. The Zodiac system is very refreshing in how it limits what each character can/should do. The battle system does feel like it got easier, that is one negative thing I can say so far. Overall I'm enjoying the game a lot and look forward to getting as full a completion as possible.

Well, I had to stop playing FFXII, it's making me sick, I guess because of the fast forward button, I tried regular speed and I found it unbearable, how could I play it twice before at such glacial speed is a mystery to me. I had some pretty bad fod poisoning last week, so I don't feel like being nauseous even a bit for a while, so...

Funny thing, without trying, I found the rare monster Nelgamuur and I couldn't remember what the deal with it was, so I googled it and I found very few references to it, one of them, someone talking about it on this thread way back when, and it turned out to be me posting about finding it. So I've come full circle and Nelgamuur still seems to like me.

Try using some periods, please.  The number of comma splices is making it difficult to comprehend.  Besides, all you really need to say is "FFXII bad."
