Fantastic episode.  Only thing lacking is more Hounds w/o Banners.

I suspect we'll check in with them (and Tormund) next week.

Yikes and away!

The Westerosi who invents competent scouts will win this war, jesus.

Otherwise that was a lot of fun - seeing Drogon light up the supply lines was just wonderful.

And in this week's Chrys watches GoT

That episode was to this season what Hardhome was to Season 5. A gem among an otherwise shaky season.

Though Season 7 isn't quite as bad as 5. Yet.

Bout freaking time, Daenerys.

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
Also, the hints of shipping Dany and Jon, which I actually don't like the idea of.  Ugh.

Behind the scenes snipped actually refers to attraction and chemistry between them, which, god damn it.

"But Targaryans are okay with incest!"

Do you want to get Mad King Aerys?  Because THIS IS HOW YOU GET MAD KING AERYS.

The entire narrative of incest in both GoT and ASOIAF is that incest is bad and incest creates people with serious issues in their brains. Joffrey, Viserys, Aerys, and on back into history. Every time a Targaryan is born the gods flip a coin--because half of them are addled by their incestual bloodlines.

And yet, so much of the fandom is like "LOL TARGS ARE COOL WITH INCEST IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL." Yes. It's a huge deal, which the narrative has hammered home over and over again (and is probably going to ignore because the show runners are... well, not great).

Could be worse. Has been worse. Often. At least Jon is only half Targaryen.

... OK, shutting up now.

Are we really expecting Jon and Daenerys to live long enough to have children?   Or settle down at all?  I'll be pleasantly surprised if one of them makes it to the epilogue, shocked if both of them do.

Well, no, and she's barren as far as we know (there are magic shenanigans but nothing hard confirmed yet) so it shouldn't matter for actual progeny. But thematically and narratively it just runs counter to what both the books and show have been saying re: incest.

It's like if suddenly towards endgame Jon started advocating for slavery and Dany was okay with it and the fandom was like "Well it's okay because the Starks are cool with slavery." (Which they're not, I know, but hypothetically.)

Like, who cares if the Starks are cool with slavery? The narrative isn't cool with slavery, and the narrative isn't cool with incest, and it pisses me off that people--and specifically the showrunners, apparently--don't seem to get that.

And you know what? I wouldn't be particularly shocked if GRRM had 'em fuck in the books, but you know what else? The books have enough space left in (at least) two full-sized novels (if they ever come out!) to explore that in a way that makes it clear that it's not really a good thing, where the show is rapidly running out of time to do basically anything other than end the war and move on to killing zombies (seriously, we're already past the half-way point of this season, and next season is even fewer episodes.

(And also I trust GRRM a lot further than I trust HBO, the people who turned Jaime into a kinslaying sister-rapist. #neverforgive)

I don't really think either version of the story is going out of its way to make a specific point about incest, beyond its inherent "ick"-factor..

I'd say that Joffrey was what he was due to Cersei spoiling him and inflating his ego his entire life, not his parents being twin siblings.  Cersei largely ignored Myrcella and Tommen, and they seem to have turned out more or less fine.

Probably a similar situation with Viserys Targaryen and his mother, once they went into exile.    Most non-Baratheon accounts of Rhaegar are very positive.   Dany could go either way at this point, but I think she'll pull through.

I'm not saying I want Jon and Dany to hook up.  It'd be a weird storytelling choice.  But at the same time, an aunt and nephew, who have never met, don't know they're related, and are a year apart in age (the nephew being older) is a lot less creepy than Jaime/Cersei, who were probably hooking up in utero.

Yeah, I always thought the show/books didn't particularly show the world being against incest (in the show I don't feel like the High Sparrow stuff wasn't exactly clear WHAT they were against).  I thought the issue with Joffrey was the suggestion that he wasn't actually the rightful heir.  And that Cersei had been unfaithful to the king.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I thought my boy Bronn was gonna bite it and I was actually okay with that. Homie's on the wrong team, and they flagged him for "imminent demise" like thirty times as soon as Jaime sent him to the scorpion.

Broseph. Get outta there. Go retire to a village somewhere and wait it out. You can't possibly go out in a way more baller than the one you almost got. That bar's been set too damn high.

I was actually hoping Bronn would die.  I like him well enough, but we're in the endgame now.  Bullshit saves and plot armor should be thrown out at this point.  I was fine with Jaime dying, too.  While Book!Jaime is my one true love, Show!Jaime is just...there.  He has no reason to exist at this point other than to eventually kill Cersei.  Personally, I'd rather Sansa get her hands on Cersei and do the deed.

Other than that though I thought the episode was very good.  Absolutely loved Drogon tearing shit up.

Well, I suppose I should start heating up the crow I said I'd eat.

I just don't understand how someone watches the show and comes away with this opinion.  He is clearly going to abandon her at the very least, by the end of this season.  Him outright killing her would not shock me.

I still think he's on the kool-aid and he'll keep being on the kool-aid riiiiiight up until

(Spoiler for last night, speculation for later episodes)
Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
he realizes Cersei ain't really fuckin' pregnant, like, dude, this is the oldest trick in the book.

Last night's episode was okay. It's hard to follow up, y'know, that big ending, so I'm not surprised they took a little breather.
