Not-Massive, but Multiplayer RPGs

Don't worry, I'm just watching you.

Since most console RPGs are single-player, I was wondering which of you have played a multiplayer RPG with others and how was that experience?

I am also including games like Final Fantasies 4, 5, 6, and 9 as well as Tales of Symphonia that include the multiplayer control scheme as well as games like Secret of Mana where the multiplayer is more clearly defined.

Personally, my only experience was about 2 minute with Secret of Mana and 20 minutes of FF9.

No answer, must be that deaf bitch.

Eternal Sonata is multiplayer in battles, but I've personally found the game to be quite meh.

Crono
Crono can cross dimensions too!

TotA and ToV are quite fun multiplayer but I've yet to do a full run that way. Star Ocean TtEoT has a multiplayer segment but it's not part of the main game; addicting as hell it is though.

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

Legend of Mana

Tales of Symphonia

Tales of Abyss

FF6

FF9

These are all games I've done complete runs of multiplayer with either a friend or my brother. Makes the experience that much better, especially the Mana games. Valkyrie Profile Silmeria is mp and I tried it briefly, SUPER FUN trying to feel each other's timing out, but I didn't get a chance to do it for more than 5 mins.

I wish the star ocean games were multi, at least let us on universe or 4D modes. It would balance out the challenge in those difficulties and make up for the poor ai and make some strategies REAL deep/fun.

Just finished a playthrough of Secret of Mana with a friend the other night. Still love the co op that game, and getting your friend stuck in parts of the screen lol.

The Champions games are always fun to play with a buddy, Return to Arms being my favorite. Even simple ones like Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance are fun dungeon crawlers.

Can someone remind me how the FFIX multiplayer worked? I've utterly forgotten, but I know I used it a few times.

you assigned each character to a controller, so multiple people could input commands. That's about it, really.

It's actually really fun if you keep ATB on. Also speeds things up and makes some of the tougher bosses a bit easier. It's quite fun.

Gladius was a pretty enjoyable Strat RPG with multiplayer. Secret of Mana and to a lesser extent Evermore were good as well.

It had the option to split up the controls for the characters during battle. My friend and I tried it a few times when we were younger but we'd always end up arguing over who gets to use Shadow.

Secret of Mana is definitely the king of this. That game with a friend or two is the most fun to be had with an multiplayer RPG. Honorable mention to Dragon Quest IX for being so breakable and to DIablo 2.

Off the top of my head, a lot of these are dungeon crawly types:

- X-Men Legends

- Marvel Ultimate Alliance

- Borderlands

- Secret of Mana

- Champions of Norrath

And while not really RPG's, Capcom's D&D beat-em-ups are pretty awesome and also have a lot of RPG elements.
