Lews
Lord of the Morning

Just a few minutes ago on switchgames I got a message saying this:

Final Fantasy VII, really the best game of all time? And, if this is your true belief, which moment from the game do you consider the most memorable?

For me it would have to be Heidegger getting hit with the plane.
I don't remember Heidegger ever getting hit by a plane. Wasn't it someone else...?

So I youtube'd the scene in Rocket Town and of course found that it was PALMER getting hit by a TRUCK.

On the side bar I saw some playthrough videos and decided to click around and it got me wanting to pick up FF7 again. It's been quite some time since I did a proper playthrough, and I've only gone through the entire game start to finish twice, the first time beating it around level 45, the second being a more complete run through getting almost everyone to level 99 and getting Knights of the Round, etc.

This also happened to me with Final Fantasy XI. I was PTing with a group out past Jeuno somewhere and in between battles a couple guys in the group starting talking about music and "You're Beautiful" by James Blount came up. Years later I hear the song on the radio (hadn't listened to it in a long time) and for some strange reason it reminded me of that time in FFXI, and I got a sudden urge to go back to Vana'diel.

Point being, have there ever been things that have happened to make you want to start playing a game you haven't played in a while? Even little things like maybe a song from the soundtrack, a shirt somebody was wearing, a youtube video or screenshot, or maybe just a mention of the game. Just when you thought you were out... they pulled you back in.

No answer, must be that deaf bitch.

Playing Deus Ex: HR made me want to go back and play the original.

I had a lot of those moments in FFXI, and I've gone back more times than I can remember.

Winter Knight of the Unseelie Court

I haven't really played any old games recently, but I was debating on starting a game of Jade Empire.

Then Deus Ex came out and took my attention from it.

StarCraft 1 really takes the cake. I played it in Middle School, High, University, Grad School, and now beyond. I just sometimes feel the urge to fight poorly programmed computers.

America: The Pony

I remember I once was looking through a gaming magazine and happened upon a little Zelda related side bar and noticed a single screenshot of Majora's Mask and the next thing I knew I was playing through the whole thing again.

Exactly these two things. Also sometimes playing the sequel of a game, if it really sucks, makes me wanna go back and enjoy the originals again.

Moved on from Deus Ex to Dead Island and Space Marine. Both are pretty awesome, but Space Marine is by far the better game of the two. Dead Island is fun, but the fact that they stole every core mechanic from Borderlands shnes through way too often.

It's usually talking about it but yeah sometimes it's a picture or some little sidebar thing on the interwebs, other times it's just the "itch".

This.

It's rarely anything specific. It's just "say, I haven't played this game in a while. Maybe I should start it up again."

Some Opera Floozy

For me, it's always hearing music that I listened to during my last major playthrough. I rarely listen to video game audio unless it's necessary, so I usually listen to my favorite album of the moment/a playlist of good songs. I get the Final Fantasy 6 itch all the time, 'cause I've listened to the most diverse stuff while playing that over the years.
