Oh my, I forgot how awesome those commercials were.

"The most anticpated epic adventure of the year...will never come to a theatre near you."

"They said it couldn't be done in a major motion picture. They were right."

To this day I still don't know where the music from those trailers originated from.

Crono
Crono can cross dimensions too!

Kind of Ironic "it couldn't be done in a motion picture". LOL Advent Children.

But seriously, I got a massive hardon for those commercials as a kid. I remember they always played during Southpark so I would record episodes JUST to replay the comercials. I had that VHS for probably 5-10 years later before I dumped it.

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

Oh man. The first time I played FF7 I had been anicipating it SO MUCH, and I thought to myself "there's no way i can possibly enjoy this that much, I'm overhyping the game for myself." But that first mission where you are the bad guy blowing up the power station, the way the opening cutscene flows into the first battle of the game, the way the basic story of AVALANCHE vs. Shinra Co. balloons into the wider plot of saving the world... and you leave MIdgar and get to the world map, where all of a sudden the entire planet is there to be traveled and discovered. I could have hyped the game up for another year and still been blown away.

Even all these years later with Advent Children and Comp. of FF VII and all that other junk hangling like a millstone around the original product's neck, the game itself is still great. I could pop it in right now and stil have a lot of fun playing through, rediscovering Materia system quirks and plot nuances. I don't think that can be said about too many other games, even in the FF series.

I love you, everything burrito.

Yes, what of it?

I had no idea what I was getting into when I played the game for the first time in 2000. I had just bought a Playstation because of my interest in FF8, and my friend recommended that I played VII because he had it, and liked it. The only thing I knew was that Aeris dies because he told me when I was thumbing through the instruction booklet on the way home. For the next week, it was all I could think about. I remember feeling so naughty when Barret would have his "@#$%!&@$%!!" lines because I was playing an "adult" game.

Happy Birthday FFVII NA. *Hugs Aeris*

(We'll just forget that whole "Compilation of FFVII thing, and go back to who we were, running around in a field hand and hand.)

I had a similar situation. I was looking through the instruction manual and asked my friend what characters I should use to have a good party, and he said 'don't use Aeris, she dies'.

I got as far as the scorpion boss in the reactor, furiously attacking when its tail was raised (as Cloud told me to do!). I kept dying and dying, and--at this point very frustrated--I quit. To this day I still don't understand why Square had Cloud tell the player to attack when the tail was up. What a way to alienate new players.

I made the same mistake, but later I found that it just came from a grammatical error. He actually says, "Attack while its tail's up!" -- then, "It's gonna counter with it's tail laser!" or something like that. So if you just caught the first part of it you'd think you were SUPPOSED to attack it when it's tail was up. There should have been ellipses or whatever they're called ( . . . ) after the first part.

But yeah, I just got FF7 through the Playstation Store and was planning on playing it on my PSP but I'd have to update past OFW 6.37 and I don't wanna do that since all my signed OFW games would be moot. Instead, I'm playing it on my PS3 and just making it my main game right now. It's been so many years since I gave it a proper replay. It was due one, considering it's my favorite game of all time.
