The trick that makes that a 2 min run is actually part of the fastest humanly possible run at present of LttP.  I believe Kryssstal has the record at 3:40ish?  It's 3 different frame perfect tricks.  Besides that there is the 5 min run which anyperson can do (it's a fun gamer's party trick) that even I can do with ease.

But still, a good TAS is always a beautiful thing.

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

I don't honestly understand what happened either. I get that they glitched it, but not exactly what or how.

I heard the japanese version of this game was glitchy, but I didn't know it was this bad. What the hell...

It's an alternate version of the "exploration glitch".  The old school way of doing it was to save and quit while hopping off a ledge in hyrule castle with zelda.  When you go back into the game whle your sprite is on the top layer of the map your location in memory is actually on the bottom layer.  You start in the ball & chain dude room and walk through a wall and keep going until you walk to the triforce room (all dungeon maps are connected) and the game ends.  With the new (and TAS variation) it works a little differently and I'm not remembering all the dirty details right now.  I just know it's several frame perfect tricks that are done via pause buffering.

I think I just remembered.  The trick we're actually seeing is the flipperless swim glitch.  Frame perfect trick that allows you to swim without zora's flippers.  But then it's executed differently (the pont where Link jumps way to the right).

After reading this i looked up how to do it since i'd never actually finished LttP, did it then decided to add a video of me doing it to the 77 trillion other videos of it on youtube.

Atma Weapon
I Am Pure Energy

Nifty trick, but it's kind of misleading to call that a speed run. Speed run implies a very fast playthrough in traditional terms, al sit skipping all of the inefficient optional content, but cherry picking the efficient optional content.

Sorry, but as a person in the speedrunning community, I disagree.  "Speedrun" imples the fastest possible way to beat a game, glitches or no.  There are of course many classifications (any%, 100%, pacifist%, etc) so if you want to see a game closer resemble what was "intended" maybe 100% runs for Mario, Metroid, and Zelda are for you.  If you want to see a game boken and destroyed by a talented god-gamer, you still get whichever you want in most cases because both are usually out there.

And to add to my statement, it's a TAS.  TAS will ALWAYS break a game to full on retard mode. lol  Go check out the Chrono Trigger run sometime.

Thanks for the explanations on how the glitch is done, Crono. Want to try it out myself! Cool thing to do when the friends are over and deveryones been drinking to question their existence. Haha.

I like watching all types of speedruns, whether its using glitches, or 100%ing everything, it's just fun seeing gamers master these things.

https://Speeddemosarchive.com : Great footage of tons of games with decent commentary for a lot of runs.
https://Speedrunslive.com : Great community that you can talk to and watch on twitch.  They do races and you can see people run games solo.
https://tssbreak.com/ : Weekly updates on records; they have a great twitch page and do episodes Sundays at 7pm EST.
https://www.w00ty.com/sda/stream/: The SDA team's twitch pages.

Honestly, peak your head around the SRL and wooty page and talk to people.  Most speedrun games have a tight community and they'll share their tricks, glitches, and techniques openly if there isn't already a FAQ or notes listed on the web.  You'll definitely want to make a twitch account though for chatting.

Also, here's a random assortment of trick videos.  Maybe some of those would lead you to an interest in a short run?  Super Mario World uses the orb glitch on any% but it's a tough trick.  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxfoIjEB67pj0FGXjwY02K89D8CfXlC3O
