I think they should pull a SEGA but stay in the handheld market. Possibly even venture into the smart phone hardware market.

Considering what happened with Sega, I'd seriously rather see Nintendo go up in smoke than that fate.

I honestly feel if anything happens in the future it would be Nintendo teaming up with Sony (fellow Japanese company) and putting all their games exclusively on PlayStation. It would of course cause a huge shift in power, but I honestly believe we'll see ourselves playing Mario on a PlayStation console one of these days. Of course Nintendo might just try and ride this out until the end of consoles anyway (who knows what the next one will look like).

I don't see them putting Mario on phones until their own handheld market is truly dead.

And for God's sakes, they need to learn how the fucking internet works in the meantime.

That's one of the most baffling things about them. It's like they're still waiting for Netscape to open or something. You mean to tell me they can't look at what MS and Sony have been doing for years and come up with something even comparable?

that's part of the problem, I think. It's not just an ignorance in the field of the internet, but also that Nintendo is SO DEAD SET on not doing something even a bit like what everyone else is doing. They're not going to imitate MS and Sony's network infrastructures until it's absolutely necessary, and it's going to leave them with a vastly inferiour service.

It took Sony, what, up until 2012 or so to catch and surpass XBL? The longer Nintendo waits, the harder it'll be to catch up.

Aye. There's a famous news article going around in the last couple of weeks where devs got early access to the Wii U's intrastructure and kept making comparison's to XBL and PSN, and Nintendo asked the devs to stop making comparisons as they claimed no-one on their team used either XBL or PSN so the comparison was not helpful.

I think Nintendo's online system is the way it is because they are worried parents will be mad that their kids are connecting too easily to people and get seduced by rapers and stalkers, and they are trying so hard to make it secure it ends up not giving you any configuration. Of course I don't think their system is any more secure from MS's and Sony's assuming you put in all the controls on those platforms, i'm just saying I think this is their mindset.
