I want to mock how ridiculous this plot is, but then I remember that FFX's main character was the dream of a dead civilization's dream about his father. Or something.

Yes but at least that games storyline reveals and attempts to explain it in game unlike 13 where most of the mythology partaining to the story must be read via primers.

This is a cool trailer, but just makes me want Square to make an actual full game with this graphics style and not just a trailer. It's all FFVI art style!

Tell your friend I liked it better too

This is how it went when I told her:

Me: "Saw this a few days ago. I honestly would like XIII better if it were more like this. >.>"

Her: "It'd be the same game just with old graphics and you'd have to read all of the story. It would have still been linear. Nothing would have changed, just the graphics."

Me: "Cuts out the stuff I didn't like about the main character, though. At least in this video."

I can't get over the "old graphics" remark. LIke 16-bit graphics were bad or something. I prefer it to the graphics in XIII, for sure.

I loved this.  Now I don't have to finish FFXIII!   It also highlights how friggin crazy the story to FFXIII was.  You know how sometimes we talk about FFVI and stuff and some people are like "Maybe it's nostalgia and the games were the same back then and we are all older now and are just calling out Final Fantasy on its crap"?  I feel like this illustrates that no, there was a lot less crazy back then.

This is how I feel, it's like the video (as awesome as it is) also helps highlight how incomprehensible the plot is.

Heh.  Yeah, that plot summary of XIII was much clearer than the actual plot.  Though I agree Crono, they are missing that one crucial element that made the whole game make no sense.

"Lightning has become the guardian of souls."  Yep, made just about that much sense in the game too!

Somewhat related, but the FF14 team seem to be having fun with 8-bit content too.

SPOILER!

Spoiler: Move your mouse over the container to reveal.
So speaking of plot, I finished the Caius plotline of Lightning Returns. And I have to say, it's DUMB! Basically, Yeul is the catalyst of the whole world ending. Because of reincarnation. Her magic was so powerful that every time she was born again, her soul was splintered and fractured, and her lifeforce ends up becoming the Chaos from the Unseen Realm. I guess that over millenia, her power became enough to break the world.

Also, Lightning became the guardian for the Goddess Etro because of this. That was in 13-2. But because she failed to stop Caius, she turned herself to crystal over her grief for Serah. So now the God Bhunevelze revived Lightning as part of his master god-plan. To "save souls." I'm supposing it's because she's the most powerful mortal in the world.

Anyway, yeah, completely ridiculous. I'll let you know how all that turns out after I finish the game. I don't know why, but I'm determined to make sense of this series, dammit. heh
