Back in my middle school days I was a major Star Wars nerd. Starting with the Han Solo Trilogy, I was making my way through the EU novels in chronological order. I got as far as Planet of Twilight, which completely and utterly destroyed my interest in the EU. That book was so dreadfully boring I still, to this day, remember the author's name: Barbara Hambly. She killed Expanded Star Wars for me.

But I still have my happy memories of the X-Wing novels, the Thrawn Trilogy, and my beloved Great Hyperspace War comics.

The main character of the x-wing books was a dreadfully written bore. I remember him as a generic badass with no personality.

The Planet of Twilight was pretty bad, though the book that game before it, Darksaber (a KJA book, unsurprisingly enough), was horrendous.

Though Hambly hasn't written anything in the Star Wars EU since the 90's and she only wrote 2 books and a couple of short stories.

lol that name "Darksaber" has always stuck with me. That's got to be a case of "ok I've got a title I think is cool, now to write a story around it".

aaand cracked has just reminded me that novel has the one-armed wampa from Empire Strikes Back still waiting on Hoth to exact its revenge when Luke returns. Burn in the hell you so richly deserve, EU.

Darksaber is bad, but the one before it... I wanna say Children of the Jedi? Was way, way worse.

Darksaber was bad not only because of the name, but also because Crix Madine was killed off by some scrub Hutt. It was such a pointless death.

I just want to forget that entire trilogy existed.
