(Whoa, I think I hit the thread title character limit on the dot).

So, this was my other thread.

So, in the thread above I make it pretty clear that when it comes to computer parts etc., I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. That thread, though I don't mention in there, ultimately resulted in my just outright getting a new computer--the old one wasn't built to be modded, the case was very compact and had a lot of parts that came in weird sizes. Anyways, I got a new, larger, significantly nicer PC.

But now, two years later, I'm realizing that while my computer is much nicer than what I'm used to using, it's still a little lacking in the GPU department. Cue melodramatic music because, as we've established, looking at computer specs makes about as much sense to me as reading ancient Greek.

ANYWAYS, this is what I have. I have been, for the most part, very happy with it. I did have to replace the HDD as the one it came with died around eighteen months ago, so now I have a 1TB HDD instead of the 500GB it came packaged with (I also had to replace the keyboard, because the one it came with is a piece of shit--the mouse is nice, though).

Stumbling around on the internet trying to figure out why certain games don't perform as well as others I've noticed a couple things:
1) Some games just don't play well with AMD cards.
2) The AMD card in my PC just isn't that great.

So I did some shopping around, did some clumsy comparisons, and have settled on trying to get an Nvidia GeForge GTX 970. This is the specific model I'm looking at (I don't know a lot about manufacturers but in my limited experience Asus has been pretty good).

So my question is this:
Is sticking that card in the PC I linked above--which I know isn't the best way to look at it but I'm at work, I can get more spec specifics from home--a feasible thing? Is it going to blow up my computer? Is there a better model to go with to get roughly that much graphis processing power?[/url]

Interesting enough, the GTX 970 was the video card I was looking into purchasing as my upgrade.

As to your question, you shouldn't have any issues replacing your current card with the one you're looking at getting. Just remember to uninstall the current video card drivers before you put the new one in.

My only concern would be with your power supply. From the pictures of the computer and from doing a quick search on the Radeon R7 240 currently in it, you would need another 8 pin PCIe power cord for the GTX 970 since the Radeon in there now doesn't require one. So you need to check your power supply to see if there is one available to use. If there isn't, you'll have to get a new power supply.

This is exactly what I was fishing for! Thanks, I'll look into it. I think I've put the purchase on the back burner for now but this will be very helpful when I get to it.
