Airships
Chocobos
Crafting Revamp
No more Physical Levels
UI Lag is virtually gone

The game is definitely improving. Anyone else noticing the amazing changes? (By which I mean finally becoming a reasonable game for release.)

So they're in the next phase of the pay-in open beta? Good to see them get to an early 2000's Korean Grindfest level of progress!

Late, but...

I got buddy pass'd at the end of October and have been "playing" XIV for the month of November.  I don't like to use the term "game" when referring to FFXIV.  I feel that "interactive catgirl expereince" or "work simulator" or "pressing Enter" are better terms.

That said, as of 1.19 the game actually feels playable.  As of 1.19, FFXIV finally feels like what you might expect of a beta test that's got enough going for it to not send my running screaming (like the original "beta" did).  The game still has tons of problems... UI lag is still bad (though not AS bad), interface is still terrible in general, there's not much to do besides grind, and on that note battle jobs are so easy to level up (I've only been playing about a month and I already have 4 combat classes 40+ and the cap is 50), expected basic functionality for things like player search, party building, and linkshell management are still missing...

But even with all those problems there's still a few months' worth of quasi-enjoyment to be had with the various quests and battle job leveling.  Much of the game is way too verbose, but the translation/writing of NPC dialog is still frequently highly entertaining, and the combat system, while still suffering from interface and lag issues, is fun enough to make grouping up to exp a mostly painless experience.

And don't even get me started on the disaster that is the economy and crafting.

On the plus side, "playing" XIV has given me lots of time to catch up on some shows and movies.  Looking at how far things have improved since launch, I have faith that 2.0 will, if they deliver, will be good...at least good enough to get some people to come back, but I sincerely doubt that 2.0 salvages the game's reputation and puts it on the map as an MMO with any legit clout.
