I've been there, hombre.

Man, reviews aren't good... It's got a 29% over at RT. I might use my theater-going money to go see Drive instead and wait for this to come out in a few months...

It's down to 28% now. However a few reviews seem to rag on the original as well, So I'm not sure how reliable that score is.

Great men aren't everywhere, just where it counts.

If you ever see me online playing Halo, join me please.

Well, I saw it anyway, and I dunno if it's just cause I lowered my expectations thanks to all the negative reviews, but I actually liked it. There were a few times the movie seemed to copycat the 80s version a little too closely, but there were also a few times where it makes you think it's gonna copy the original, but then it does things a little differently.

SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW (because I can't figure out spoiler tags...)

Two gripes: it got a little too Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in the end, and despite all its attention to the details of the burned Norwegian camp in the 80s film, it had what I thought was a pretty big continuity error: the 80s film shows the guys watching footage of the uncovered saucer, with all the Norwegians standing around the crater. In this film, the saucer is under the ice for the majority of the film, and it only gets uncovered after pretty much everyone is dead. For a film that explained little things all the way down to why there was an ax stuck in the door in the 80s film, I thought that was kinda a big thing to mess up.

END SPOILERS

Overall, not bad. Not as good as the original, but nothing beats Kurt Russell.

I'm still going to rent it, as planned.  I'm also still going to ignore Footloose.  Sorry, Julianne Hough, I know you're hot, but movies about towns where dancing is banned are stupid.

Currently playing: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, Picross DS
Last played: Time Hollow (good)
Last watched: Agent Carter (very good)
Me on Favslist
