Playing the one that you thought got away...

Yes, what of it?

With the recent suggestion to have people post more here, I was wondering, was there a game that, you never thought you'd be able to play, and you finally got to play it? How did it measure it up?

Recently, for me that game was Capcom's Last Ranker for PSP. It never came out outside of Japan, but someone fan translated the main story bits into English. It has been a while since I had had as much fun with a game as I have with that one. Though you only play as one character, the battle system and storyline give reasons for it. I ended up really liking the world around it overall.

Was there a hidden gem game for you that ended up being a huge disappointment?

Let's talk about it here!

A couple things come to mine....

I am playing Xenoblade Chronicles right now which is one of those games that I never thought I'd actually play due to the length of the game. But so far I am enjoying it, if struggling a little bit in getting bogged down in the exploration and some of the JRPGness of it. But overall I enjoy it. I have discovered that, in general, I kind of suck at playing big RPG's the first time through. I can't enjoy them as all I want to do is explore, but I feel a sense of urgency driving the plot forward so I don't really take the time to explore and then feel like I am missing out. So I end up general pushing the game forward and not taking the time to realy soak in the world around me. This is definitely happening with Xenoblade. But I am starting to slow down and enjoy each area a little bit more. Frontier Village was pretty amazing. I also loved Satorl Marsh. Two of the more immersive locales I've seen in a game in recent years.

I also recently got ahold of Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma. Haven't played them yet, but they will be up next and DEFINITELY fit the definition of this topic so I will add something on those games down the road.

Yep, still gaming

Disappointment no, quite the contrary, so Iâ?? share that instead:That happened to me with the two Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga, I remember that you all talked about it and I looked them up and had no idea what they were, but loved the art style. Nevertheless, I passed on playing them. Over the years, I kept coming across the art: concept art of the characters, stills from cutscenes, and it looked so neat that I finally decided to get them. But of course, they were impossible to find, but somehow I got the info that Atlus were releasing copies from time to time in limited amounts, so I haunted the Amazon listings every day for months, first for one, then for the other until I got them both. And it payed off, they are still two of my favorite games, and story ever.

Good Boy

I seem to recall passing on Dirge of Cerberus because everything to do with it looked like total ass, despite FF7 being my all times bestest game evar.  I eventually tried it on a whim a couple of years back and everything to do with it was indeed total ass.

Oh yeah, now that's a bad game! I forgot about it, not that I was dying to play it or almost got away, but it sure was a disappointment.
Same goes for Shadow Hearts 4 ... "NICE MOMONGA!" *shudders*
