I know this forum is virtually dead, but is anyone here watching Discovery? And is anyone absolutely tired of the BS agenda-driven storylines? I gave season 1 some leeway because it was a new, but season 2 has been absolute garbage. Michael Burnham sucks, the feminist and social justice warrior agendas suck, the writing sucks, and other than Anson Mount as Pike and the presence of the Enterprise, the plot sucks, too.

I made this for you!

I don't watch the show as I don't have enough interest to pay for CBS' streaming service, but I do keep up with things via Metafilter's threads on each episode.

I don't like the idea of Spock having a secret sister.  Writers trying to leave their own mark on the character.  It will probably end up that the way they complete it to justify Spock and Sarek never mentioning her in the future will be completely dumb.

The time travel elements seem to be way too common.  It's hard to understand just from reading recaps and commentary how the time travel fits in, but it seems really convoluted.  In TOS, it was okay, that was the /original/ show.  No later shows really did anything too weird in the past up until First Contact, which I didn't like.  With Enterprise it was bad and now they're going all in and it's even worse.

Section 31's involvement is ehh.  William Sadler's involvement in DS9 was great, but trying to create Section 31 as a big bad back in the Federation's earlier history is dumb.  It ruins the mystery of the organization.

I really don't understand the malevolent AI and what it's all about.  The threads at Metafilter are full of speculation on how they're going to work it out so that the really high tech of the Discovery era gets removed by the time TOS comes around.  Just more of the same, a super big event and then hand wave and it's all forgotten by the time Kirk and TOS comes on the scene.

Just from what I've read, Discovery as a show seems to be confirming my view that prequels in Star Trek are dumb because they are impossible to pull off without massive disruption to what has already been established and whatever is done to justify it all comes off as really not believeable.

As for the SJW and feminist elements, I really can't comment since Metafilter is totally onboard with all that and they wouldn't complain about it at all.

I'm not a big fan of Discovery. It's meh. Picard is a little bit better.

I'm really looking forward to Strange New Worlds. I'm hoping that will have some more redeeming qualities.
