5.4 Trailer: Futures Rewritten

With the Scions back on the Source, our attention turns to the matter of the Empire's impending collapse as civil war has broken out.the With the unsundered dead, the remaining Ascions are setting their own machinaitons into play to revivew Zodiark. Aiding Zenos is the Ascian Fandanielle who has taken the meat suit of everyones favorite shit-head cousin Asai.

From the trailer looks like they are finally turning Taimat into a Primal (which we knew was inevitable since she first appeared during Heavensward). Also, towers have appeared but their function is unknown.

Looks like the final boss of Eden is Cloud of Darkness (Dissidia design) which is a bit of a letdown since there was a lot fo speculaiton leaning towards Ultimecia. But this is Yoshida and he is more a fan of old-school FF (1-6). Likely if any other villains are to appear it will be Emperor and Zeromus. We may be waiting until after Yoshida before Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Kuja, and Jecht can make an appearance. Since we are having CoD make her return, it's possible we may see Doga and Une reappear as we left them behind in the World of Darkness.

Emerald Weapon is next in our Weapons to smash. I'd be interested to see if Extreme ends up having a bubble mechanic that is timed as a nod to FF7 since liekly there will be no Underwater Materia.

Time Travelling White Mage

Hard to say if that is really a Primal version of Tiamat, as it's just a weird dragon with glowing purple scales (Tiamat herself was stated way back in HW as being fully capable of breaking out of confinement any time she wanted, but she didn't because she wants to stay bound in Azys Lla eternally as penance for her part in summoning the Primal version of Bahamut (and guilt for believing the Ascians' lies). It does seem to be we'll be fighting this thing on the Steps of Faith though, again, as the new-Ascian-in-Asahi's-meatsuit is shown monologuing to the WoL and the Scions thereĀ  (Fandaniel seems to have an obssession with theatrics, rather like Emet did).

Emerald Weapon is almost certainly not being fought underwater - the trial is stated as taking place in Castrum Maranium, the castum on the crag offshore from Thanalan that Cape Westwind connects to, so it's probably somewhere in there, with the WoL and their party storming the castrum and making their way quickly to the Weapon's dock (the trailer shows what appears to be a submarine dock which is probably a further nod to FFVII in the fight). The brief shots of the battle clearly show a metal floor of the battlefield and waht appears to be metallic struts in the background, like the sort seen in Garlean facilities.

Re: Dissidia!Cloud of Darkness. Is that really going to be Eden's final boss? We got a brief shot of the World of Darkness in that trailer, and also another brief shot of a hologram of Doga and Unei so maybe the World of Darkness may be returning in a new form as a new trial/dungeon/raid (new Unreal raid?). It remains to be seen though.

EDIT: after reviewing the trailer again I realized it's not the Steps of Faith but the Royal Menegaerie in Ala Mhigo, suggesting the dragon primal could be Shinryu MkII (I've seen speculation online it's meant to be a bastardization of Zodiark, which explains Fandaniel being there).
