Genitals are Funny

Every single gaming website or ofrum (except this one) youtube video or anything gaming related is just bombarded with rabid fanboys declaring their love for a game that isn't even out yet. It's like it's the 2nd coming of RPG Jesus or something.

Is anyone else as annoyed about it as i am?

Yes.  That type of RPG just ain't my thing, and I'm tired of it being treated like the END ALL BE ALL.

Whew... for a second I thought that somebody had already played a little bit of it and hated it. I'm looking forward to playing the game, but probably won't have time until December.

I've never played an Elder Scrolls game, actually. Can someone give me a quick synopsis? NA RPG, right?

I'm in London at the moment and the marketing done for this is INSANE. There are massive banners in every tube station, adverts before movies, etc. I don't think Halo ever had a huge as a launch as this game.

It is really that popular? I thought pretty only hard-core gamers played it? Of course the same could be said for Final Fantasy I guess.

The hype for Skyward Sword is 10x more annoying than the hype for Skyrim. Just sayin.'

(I am looking forward to both games, by the way.)

Seems to be at about the level of hype Oblivion had. I'm seeing it from a different perspective this time, though. Instead of, "Must get this game at launch, it's gonna be the best RPG ever!" I'm more, "I like some of the changes I'm seeing, but I'm going to wait until a price drop and an established mod scene."

The game leaked a few days ago, so there's impressions, streams, and spoilers all over the Internet. Consensus seems to be... it's an Elder Scrolls game alright. It does seem like some of the complaints from Oblivion have been addressed (level scaling is much less rampant, dungeon crawling is more rewarding, the perk system makes different character builds genuinelly unique), but it's still got the same clunky combat, dialogue, and general wonkiness as always.

They are western RPGs, but they're very different from Bioware-style RPGs. They're open world RPGs that put a focus on exploration and doing what you want in the game world. Basically you create a character by choosing a race and a variety of combat, magic, and stealth skills and then do whatever you want from there. There is a main storyline you can follow at will or completely ignore, various guilds you can join with their own storylines, countless sidequests, and a large number of dungeons and other locations to explore that may or may not be related to the story and quests.

They're the type of games that, when done well, can easly suck a player in for a hundred hours or more per character. If you've played one of the modern Fallout games you'll have a pretty good idea of what Skyrim will be like (although I can't imagine it being anywhere near as good as New Vegas).

Oblivion sold like gangbusters here. Helped that it was a 360 launch title and was one of the first real quality games on the console. Not sure how well Morrowind sold, but I'm pretty sure Oblivion has sold at least 3-4 million copies. Fallout 3 and New Vegas also did really well.

It's probably the only I am drolling for so, for me, I am not sick of it. Essentially Oblivion was my introduction to WRPG's and it was a lasting impression that allowed me to smoothly transition from JRPG's to WRPGs. So I have a lot of respect and anticipation for this game and series (so far).

I'm utterly terrified by Skyrim.  I think if I do get it, and I will, I will just cease to be.

Actually bought it despite hating Morrowind and skipping Oblivion.  Thus far it's much better than Morrowind.  People actually have unique things to say this time.  Plus I can set things on fire WHILE chopping them up.  SIMULTANEOUSLY!!!  And I killed a Dragon.  Mwahahahaha!
