Deep Water Horizon

Looks more Baz Lurhmann than Great Gatsby.  It could be good, though.

Currently playing: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, Picross DS
Last played: Time Hollow (good)
Last watched: Agent Carter (very good)

Leo DiCaprio as Gatsby is really inspired casting.  Love it.

The casting is pretty much perfect in all respects.

I really like what I'm seeing. 2012 has already destroyed last year in great films. It's shaping up to be a solid second half as well.

This is what I thought, but I also thought this was aweful.  I mean, hes doing the movie his way which is fine, but I doubt it will be a flick I enjoy considering how much I like the book and what I expected this movie to be with the casting.  Also, the CGI, in the trailer at least, was so bad to the point of being distracting.

For the record Baz Luhrmann's films aren't supposed to look like they have realistic visual effects 9 times out of 10.  Either he is using clever stage tricks that you don't notice at all or he is flat out drawing attention to the unreality of it all (handgun bouncing off of the Eiffel Tower in Moulin Rouge, anyone?)

This looks better than I would expect from this director/story combo.

I'm on the boat that thinks it looks super fake/Moulin Rougey so it's just plain weird.

I understand stylizing stuff for a musical but not Great Gatsby.

Eh, as long as the acting is good, I couldn't give less of a damn about the visuals. Gatsby was very much about its characters and you can get away with heavily stylizing the Roarin' 20's setting since that part of Long Island was stinking rich and incredibly opulent.

Personally, I like how stylised it is. I actually really like The Great Gatsby, but it could definitely use some flair to it. This does a good job of that, and the acting in the trailer (lol trailer, but still) gave me some confidence that this is definitely going to be a movie worth seeing. Really, I can't wait.

I will watch any film that DiCaprio is in, pretty much.

Not really a fan of the heavy Lurhmann-ish visuals, but yeah Leo is always great.
