Still the hydrophobic is interesting, especially since hydrophobic materials relate to a water-material interaction where if the wetting angle is small then the water is a bead on the material. Still I think non-water borne bacteria could still gather on that plunger. Wetting angles depend on molecular interactions and some bacteria/viruses can overcome it... it's just can survive in such a desert.
Also the water would pass over the treated pane of glass, but only briefly after gravity became too much for it's self-cohesion (H bonds). It's fascinating, but I'm curious about the chemical structure.
