lost

My aunt had a transplant 12 years ago, and I'm doing the same at home dialysis she was doing, and it's amazing the improvements they've made to treatment since then.  She had to do 4 manual treatments a day.  I just hook up to a machine when I go to bed (not even bed really, I'm hooked up right now for instance).  I have a polycystic kidney disease as well, but I actually waste salt and don't have to worry about fluid retention or restrictions.

I'm actually not supposed to eat nuts, as they have large amounts of phosphorus.  But I suppose she had to get protein somehow.

Yep, still gaming

Yeah, back then, at least in Argentina, the transplants were still an iffy, risky thing; she was mortally afraid of having one, but my sister signed up on the waiting list from day one.
I'm glad it has gotten so much better, given that so many people has kidney problems, more than one would think, actually.
Aaaand, I'm done highjacking the thread, sorry, Atma!.

It's so weird the way things are set up in the U.S.; in Argentina, being a "locavore" vegetarian is the cheapest option of them all, given that we still have local green grocers that simply get their produce from local people all due to practicality and economical issue
In Brazil as well.  But if you start looking for soy products , more ellaborated products,  vitamins and complements , vegetarian restaurantes, then it can get quite expensive.

I admire people who are vegetarian for ethical reasons.
Never tried to do it seriously, I wonder if I can...
But each time, I enjoy more salads / risotto, and god, I love mushrooms , it´s an excellent protein source...

Atma Weapon
I Am Pure Energy

The only real downside is that my digestive tract has become a fart factory.

I seriously need to hit the Beano.

Actually there's very little protein in mushrooms. Just water and a little bit of fiber. For protein, legumes are where it's at. Thus the farting.
