Chocolina Returns with Lightning's New Clothes By Jiro, December 30th, 2012
Lightning will have access to customizable clothing and equipment, thanks to a crafting system and mysterious merchant Chocolina.
After sporting a new look in Final Fantasy XIII-2 and doing a faux photo shoot for Prada, Lightning appears to have caught the fashion bug. In Lightning Returns, our heroine will have over 20 costumes, with the new design courtesy of Tetsuya Nomura. There's a wide range of equipment and accessories to help customise Lightning as well, like the sunglasses sported in the trailer.
Chocolina - who aided Serah and Noel in Final Fantasy XIII-2 - makes a triumphant return, helping to kit Lightning out with new equipment. Apart from purchasing items from merchants, Lightning will also be able to create them through a crafting system, so long as she has the component pieces. Combat now uses "Styles" instead of the Paradigm Shift, consisting of combinations of weapons, shields, accessories and abilities. With only a single character to control, Lightning's customisation has definitely been stepped up a notch.
Additional information revealed in the Famitsu interview confirms that QTEs won't be present in Lightning Returns. Sidequests will also play a huge role, being strongly tied to Lightning's own growth and yielding components used in item creation, making them very valuable.
