Acquiring

You must kill 20 Tonberry's to meet the Tonberry King. Tonberry's reside around the fountain in the Centra Ruins. Once you've defeated the Tonberry King, you will receive Tonberry as a GF.

Though Tonberry is extremely powerful, his slow attack speed can be used to your advantage. Inflict physical attacks, GF's such as Diablos and Doomtrain, and powerful Limit Breaks. Tonberry can be destroyed before he makes any move if you organize and execute attacks quickly.

Battle Strategies
|
The Tonberry King is faster than his smaller counterparts, but not enough to prevent you from unleashing damage before his first attack. Use Aura Stones on your characters and inflict as many Limit Breaks as possible. Take advantage of drawing Full-Life from him. Use powerful magics, such as Meltdown and Demi, to cut down his HP.
Keep in mind that if you run from Tonberry King, you will need to fight 20 Tonberry's to encounter him again.

A B I L I T Y P R O P E R T I E S
Guardian Force abilities in Final
Fantasy VIII are either
innate or command
activated, depending on the type
of ability. There are four
ability categories: junction,
command, GF, and character
abilities. Guardian forces learn
abilities by acquiring AP
from enemies defeated in battle.
Certain abilities can grow
to become new abilities once
their AP requirements have been
met.

Junction
| Junctions magic to a
statistic, such as
strength or speed.
|
Command
| Ability is an action
command, available
during battle.
|
Character
| Ability is equipped
to the character's
statistic.
|
GF
| Ability is equipped
to the GF's
statistic.
|
Ability
| Ability is a menu
command, available from
the game menu.
|
Party
| Ability is equipped
to the entire party.
