The Valia Pira battle will begin by scanning your inventory for any bloodstones, any armor you've acquired inside the palace. Enhancement abilities of the Valia Pira will be disabled based on which bloodstones in your possesion. The more you have, the easier this battle will be as the boss won't have as many attacks. Make sure, however, you don't have any of this equipment "equipped." The enhancements consist of Magic Power, Elemental Defense, Physical Defense, Evasion, Magic Defense and Magic Evade. This boss has high HP which can make the battle lengthy, but attack with your most powerful weapons and meanest magics. Wind and thunder magic are helpful. Make sure you keep your characters healed as its attacks can sometimes be intense.

Not a very powerful boss, however the exchange of a weaker party member who hasn't been around in a while can make the battle a little more tough. Simply dish out physical attacks in combination of magic attacks. Make sure you cure your party of the mass virus attack, as it'll prevent you from acquring the winning AP after the battle is complete.

This battle will be fought by Zidane and Quina, so make sure both of them have been adequately leveled up throughout the game. If either one of them is too weak, it can make this battle extremely difficult. Zidane's Trance can inflict powerful damage against Earth Guard. He'll retort with quakes, so keep your characters afloat if possible. Attack constanty and heal as necessary.

A fairly tough fight at the start because Zidane is on his own. Hit Amdusias a few times and Freya will come to help you out. Hit Amdusias a few more times and Amarant will come in to help. Heal using Hi-Potions as you need to, and keep using Reis's Wind whenever it's regen effect wears off to keep your HP high. Use Amarant's Chakra to resore some of Freya's MP. Keep hitting the Amdusias and eventually it'll fall to the ground and die.

Somewhat stronger than the standard Abadon enemy, this miniboss has more HP and more powerful attacks. However, it can be easily dispatched with a slew of physical attacks, which is really all you have since no magic users will be in your party during this battle. Heal with recovery items as necessary.

After several brutal attacks, Zidane will have his HP reduced to 1, but will be fully recovered by Dagger who will join to assist in the battle. Since you have no attack magic, use Eidolions if possible, as well as physical attacks and recovery magics on your two party members.

Even with somewhat low experience levels, you can still dispatch Garland with ease. He has extremely slow reaction times and his attacks aren't too damaging. For a big time boss whos been behind everything, he's extremely weak.

Although he can't be defeated, Kuja can defeat you if you deplete his MP. Make sure you don't use spells which target MP or he'll unleash his Flare Star attack which will easily take out your party. Hack away at his HP and he'll eventually use Ultima which will take out everyone and end the battle.

Throughout the world of Final Fantasy IX, you may encounter a friendly monster in battle who is looking for an item more than a fight. Of course, attacking a friendly monster will cause it to run away. However, should you give the friendly monster the item its looking for, you will be treated with an AP bonus and an item in return.

As listed in order on the friendly monsters page, take the winning item and give it to the next friendly monster. After you've exchanged all the necessary items between monster to monster, you'll have finished a sub quest which enables you to battle the optional boss Ozma at short range. Consult the secret boss page for information and tactics on this boss.
