I mean, it looks fun, and it looks like you've got a great amount of control and mobility but GODDAMN that HUD is fucking small. Can any of you actually read that thing?

Currently Playing: Dark Cloud 2: 3 hours.
Also Playing: CT, FF VI, Solatorobo, Secret of Mana, Halo 4.
Just Finished: Fable II: 7 hours.

I admit, that gameplay trailer alleviated alot of my concerns. I like numbers, and I like seeing numbers, and I didn't see any in the first trailer. One of things I've always hated about Kingdom Hearts.

Also, that ending with the stalking Behemoth is literally right out of my dreams. I have imagined exactly that scenario of a real life, urban setting where everything is seemingly fine, and then a giant behemoth comes crawling out of the dark and across the road like some prehistoric predator on the prowl, while you hide and pray it doesn't see you. All we need now is a mountain-sized Malboro Overlord floating in the smog-filled skies of a collapsing cityscape like the disembodied, tentacled head of Cthulu, and I will be convinced SE is watching my dreams.

If you're excluding MMO's in that statement.... I'd take a next gen FF12 clone any day.

edit: can't tell if it's fun from watching it . probably won't know til I play. anyone getting a "The Last Story" feel to the battle system? Nothing, and I mean nothing, is worse than restricting you to the disadvantages of real time (only use one character) and not get the benefits (more exciting to take distance and length into account, can move around, dodge etc) FF13 took everything I hate about real time battles, and everything i hate about turn based and put it all together.

It's the Kingdom Hearts development team, and I believe it's pretty much that style more than The Last Story. To me this is good news, although Last Story has good/interesting combat as well. I know some people are hating that it is super action oriented, but to me so long as the story and characters are good I am willing to try a number of different gameplay systems. I also really like that this is a break from the trend of increasingly disengaging battle systems. FFXII let/made you automate things. FFXIII automated itself (but it sure looked like it could be fun if you were telling Lightning to do all her jumping around). I like that this appears to require you to be awake.

Also: I think everyone needs to wake up and realize that Nomura is the only talented man still at that company. How anyone would quibble with Kingdom Hearts when the alternative is fucking FFXIII is beyond me. That's like not caring for a certain type of desert because maybe it isn't your absolute favorite when your alternative is being served poison. You aren't choosing between Nomura and Sakaguchi or Nomura and Matsuno... you are choosing between Nomura (Advent Children, KH1 + 2) and all of the worst games Square Enix has ever produced, because everything that hasn't gone through his hands has been crap, or outsourced to a completely different developer (don't worry Level 5, we're still cool).

It does look like this generation will be lead by Nomura where as last gen Toriyama had his reign of terror with Square-Enix and the FF franchise. However seeing the output of Toriyama, I would rather have Nomura take control if that's the best option available.

That said I remain optimistic FFXV will be, at least, a good game. Though the problem in Square Enix now is the lack of creatvie vision for the franchise.

The lack of a Matsuno or Sakaguchi in Square does prove these two were very important to the Square/FF brand. And while Kitase is still part of Square the absense of Sakaguchi does expose him a bit as a person who needs a ton of guidance.

Like Argo ... Nomura taking over the franchise and the generation is the best bad idea Square has. Of course another option would be to let their western counterparts get involved in the franchise (it worked for Metroid Prime) or get someone from Atlus.

Most FF games and have been linear. The problem of FFXiII was that the game was linear the problem is that you couldn't do anything in the game that resembles an RPG. Ths includes customization, interaction, and variety (ex FFVI and FFVI were linears game from the 1st half but the game encouraged you to explore around).

But I recall the dev team in FF vs XIII saying the game will
a) be an open world
b) have airpships
of course that was like 2+ years ago so the plans could very well have changed.

The giant Leviathan shot was holy fuck but the rest just looks silly and jumping everywhere and assassin's creed meets shadow of the colossus. Plus Nomura's designs just look stupid when rendered hyper-realistically.

Shooter, I agree that FF games are in general linear in structure. I have no problem with linear games - as you said, what most of us didn't like about FF13 is that the WORLD was also linear. It honestly felt more like Star Fox than an RPG, like the game was on rails. I was always being forced to move in a direction and never could turn back. Even the most notable perpetrators of this like Grandia had zones of the game you spent in one general area. It's hard to appreciate a world when you don't stop to smell the roses. The trailer to this FF15 allays me fears that this is no longer the case here, which is why I'm happy.
