The free version is just a boring lego game that's only barely related to real Minecraft. All it is is an early crappy pre-Alpha build that's never been updated.

Real Minecraft, in it's late beta stage, is kinda like that, insofar as there is a "building with blocks" element. In a procedurally generated world with real landscape, including lakes, mountains, and trees. With about twice as many types of block. In a world with eight times the surface area of earth. Oh, yeah, and it's now a survival-horror game. That is infinitely more fun in multiplayer than it ever could be singleplayer. Notch needs to take that free crap down, it's shit, compares nothing to today's MinecraftAddendum: if someone has the cash,<a href="https://servercraft.co/pricing/";> this is the best cheap hosting provider out there</a>. A tier 2 server ought to be enough for the handful of us.

I still can't solve the blank screen crash so I'm not playing too much, though the guild I used to play WoW with way back when got me on their server. Dunno if I can split my Mincrafting attention over a couple of servers heh.

I've had a server running for about a year from a friends computer, we've got more than a thousand hours worth of work on it and had 8 people on it or more (that's just running from a home computer). I should really do a youtube video/guided tour about it

With 1.8/9 around the corner we were thinking about starting fresh with a new server. Honestly though, these hosted servers are not very good value nor offer a decent backup system from what I can tell.

The other server I'm on has been rock-solid stable with great backups since we switched to it.

I asked if you guys could join us, but they said no. :(

Need to delete your bin folder. It'll be under %appdata%/roaming/.minecraft. just delete the bin folder and it'll fix itself the next time you start.

Yeah it's still randomly blank screening no matter what I do. Hopefully 1.8 helps, whenever that lands.
